Television show host author and lecturer Doug Kaufmann returned home from Vietnam in 1971 with strange and annoying health problems. He graduated from the US Navy Hospital Corps School in 1969; so he understood that medications might successfully subdue his symptoms, but his interest was not in erasing the symptoms hours at a time with drugs, rather understanding why they began in the first place. It is fitting then, that in 1999, when he began his television career, he would name his health show Know The Cause! Little did he know in 1999 that the show would attract such a large and loyal following.
“After coming home from Vietnam, I felt like a parasite had entered my body and was reprogramming everything from my gut to my brain.” stated Kaufmann.
Armed only with curiosity and a library card, Kaufmann set out to try to discover the cause of his symptoms. A library book on parasitology at USC Medical School, where he worked on research projects in the 1970’s with Dr. Everett Hughes, led him to many answers. He finally understood that parasitic fungus was causing his health problems. âEvery veteran of foreign wars knows that hygiene is the least of their concerns when in a war zone. We were constantly wet and filthy and this likely led to fungal growth in our lungs or on our skin. once inside our bodies, these fungi can emit poisons that endanger health. We simply did not know this in 1971.”
Fungi thrive on carbohydrates once inside the body. Decades ago, Kaufmann developed a diet that literally starved parasitic fungi-The Kaufmann Diet. Many have benefitted from this discovery.
On natural supplements and his own diet, his symptoms gradually began clearing up. He worked clinically with various physicians and developed the first food allergy blood tests in the 1970’s, While working clinically, he discovered that so many people suffered as he did early in his career. How much of this was related to fungus? Following 20 years of clinical research he had his answer. “I and the doctors that I worked with discovered that many illnesses are based in fungal infections”.
The Physicians he worked with became convinced that an incredible science (Mycology, the study of fungus) had been totally overlooked during their training.
Sadly, this is still the case today, leaving many patients to suffer unnecessarily.
Thanks in part to his continued research and work, today we now know with certainty that certain fungi make poisonous substances (mycotoxins) that can alter our DNA, cause numerous diseases, including cancer. To this end, Kaufmann has dispensed Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses to physicians and nurses who attended one of his three courses in 2016. He published on the Fungal Link to Cancer in Oncology News In November 2014. He has lectured widely to both lay and professional audiences alike on the ability of fungus to either mimic or contribute to nearly every disease known.
His show, Know The Cause, airs daily in approximately 80 million American homes, enabling viewers to learn of the fungus link to their own health problems. He has authored a dozen books on the subject of various medical maladies caused by fungus.
