In case you missed the show on September 26, listen to the recorded archive! We are living at the dawn of the Quantum Age when, for the first time, a majority of physicists surveyed confidently assert that you and I and every physical thing exists in a superposition of states. What would it feel like to exist in a superposition of states? How could you tell? You might notice things like: markedly different childhood memories from your siblings; spontaneous or speedy healing from illness or injury; different movie dialogue, writing in books, product names, song lyrics, TV shows, and celebrities alive again after being reported dead. In fact, this is precisely what people are reporting with the increasingly recognized “Mandela Effect.” Join us as Cynthia Sue Larson guides us through this exciting journey. Listen...

Stephen Dinan – Sacred America, Sacred World: Fulfilling Our Mission in Service to All By Rebekah and Boyd Campbell...

‘Sacred’ is a word that binds us together in the mystery of life and links us into a single human family. In a truly sacred world, no one is ultimately our enemy. A sacred worldview leads to a life filled with respect and reverence. Sacred America, Sacred World is a call for us to reach for our highest destiny as a country. Stephen believes our truest destiny is not built on our desire to be number one, but is rather a humbler sense of calling, animated by a spirit of service to all. We are called to explore new frontiers politically, economically, and even spiritually, not just in service to our own citizens, but in service to the world. Join us as Stephen outlines a clear path toward healing the rifts that have torn our society asunder, appreciating our differences, and uniting in common cause to create a world worth passing on to our children. Listen Live Monday, October 3 at 9am Pacific-12pm Eastern on VoiceAmerica 7th Wave Channel. Stream or download after the show. Listen...

“Do not trust the horse, Trojans! Whatever that is, I fear the Greeks, even when bearing gifts.”  Zahra Hasanian and Brigitte Jia head up this installment of Express Yourself!™ about trust. Thirteen year old Jack Pawlakos debuts filling in for his older brother Alex in Health Rap relating the importance of the doctor/patient relationship. Cryptozoologist and field investigator for the Centre for Fortean Zoology, Ken Gerhard, lights up the airwaves with his true tales of A Menagerie of Mysterious Beasts, including Big Foot, Nessie, and more. Pat Present reporter, Chelsea Pelchat, compares Machiavelli with Richard III as we look at the past to understand today. Book Smart reporter, Maria Wong, looks at the book of a former guest Lies I Told by Michelle Zink to discuss the gift of trust. The Secret in “Milton’s Secret” By Cheryl Esposito Sep26

The Secret in “Milton’s Secret” By Cheryl Esposito...

Cheryl Esposito welcomes Barnet Bain, award-winning filmmaker and author. His film Milton’s Secret, opens Friday September 30th in select theatres worldwide, on demand, with the gala premiere that evening at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Milton’s Secret is based on the book of the same name, written by Eckhart Tolle & Robert Friedman. Barnet has a career of telling spiritually themed stories. He wants his films to stir our consciousness, not preach to it. Have you ever questioned your beliefs? Barnet offers powerful questions we can ask about our beliefs to allow deep self-awareness, leading to intentional choices: “Is this [belief] true with me now? Or is this a ‘hand-me-down’ belief? Where did I learn this?” “Milton’s Secret” is a story of families, and how uncertainty and their beliefs about uncertainty, affect their experience of life, relationships, and the shaping of a child’s worldview. Join Cheryl Esposito & Barnet Bain to stir your consciousness of...

What is Self-care and Why is it Such A Challenge By Maureen Metcalf Sep26

What is Self-care and Why is it Such A Challenge By Maureen Metcalf...

This blog is a companion to an interview with Dr. Deborah Zucker on Voice America Innovative Leaders Driving Thriving Organizations on September 27 focusing on the importance of building and sustaining vitality for leaders. “Self-Care” is a big buzzword today in the health community. There are many books and professionals offering quick and easy tips for better “self-care”. But, I’m going to suggest something here that may seem kind of radical. Self-care isn’t about the list of things you are supposed to do to be healthy, or about keeping up with the new health fads or latest scientific theories. Self-care isn’t about battling yourself into submission to satisfy the agendas of your inner critic. Self-care is about a fundamental orientation toward the self that is rooted in kindness and compassion. It is about nourishing all of who you are. And at its foundation, it is about your capacity to truly love and honor yourself and your life. As wonderful as all this sounds, true self-care is far from easy. The spiritual teacher Adyashanti in his book, Falling into Grace, tells his students, “The person you’ll have the hardest time opening to and truly loving without reserve is yourself. Once you can do that, you can love the whole universe unconditionally.”   So don’t be surprised if self-care doesn’t come naturally, or if you have unexpected and irrational resistance to doing it. We all have baggage, wounds, traumas, and beliefs that keep us from being able to turn toward ourselves with the level of kindness, compassion, and loving care that we may easily be able to extend toward others. I’ve found that learning how to face and embrace those resistant parts of ourselves is foundational to having an empowered relationship with our own self-care. Issues...

Star Trek: What Can It Teach Us About Leadership? By Maureen Metcalf Sep21

Star Trek: What Can It Teach Us About Leadership? By Maureen Metcalf...

In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of Star Trek, my co-author Dan Mushalko and I wanted to explore answers to this question: What traits from this iconic series apply to current leadership? That question probably seems particularly odd coming from me—the person who continually talks about the future of leadership. Some background. In an interview with Dan Mushalko, General Manager of public radio station WCBE and a former NASA geek, and Jim Ritchie-Dunham, Harvard researcher and CEO of the Institute for Strategic Clarity vibrancy became a topic. And an interesting correlation emerged—the connection between the vibrancy theory, the vibrant performance of the radio station, and Star Trek. I wasn’t surprised given what I know about my colleagues, but I was delighted to share this in an interview. I have the good fortune of having these conversations regularly and find them quite fun. As a foundation for this discussion, let’s start with what I think about innovating ourselves as leaders. There are a few different tactics for effective leaders, but all include these: •Build on your past successes (should be about 80 percent of your development energy) •Identify what to change because it is getting in your way (should be about 20 percent of your development energy) •Identify what to stop doing even if it got you where you are—because the question is, will it get you to the next step on your journey(what you save here will add to your available energy)? So, this blog post started based on a conversation about the similarity between the transporters on the starship Enterprise and transforming organizations. When the captain and crew use a transporter, their molecules are momentarily disassembled, beamed away as particles (hence the phrase, “Beam me up, Scotty!”), then rearranged whole again at their...

Autumn Accord By Cynthia Brian...

Autumn is the hush before winter. ~French Proverb Having spent autumns in France, I attribute a portion of this year’s love for fall to my past travel experiences of quiet beauty in the yellowing vineyards, the crisp, cool mornings walking through fields sipping a café au lait, and the warming scents of seasoned firewood burning in evening hearths beckoning me to dine on the produce of the day. Autumn is harvest time here in California with the bounty of grapes, walnuts, apples, and pears ripe and ready. The last bushels of tomatoes, corn, eggplant, peppers, and summer squash are making their way to kitchen tables and to outdoor grills as we all enjoy the final hours of sunshine and patio parties. The days are shortening, the nights are lengthening, leaves are turning amber, umber, and orange as we herald in the hush before winter. Nature is in harmony as gardens begin to settle in for their long winter’s nap. It’s time to start pondering our spring gardens by rotating crops so as not to deplete the nutrients for a healthy production next season. Cover crops, peas, and legumes are nitrogen fixers. Mix up the heavy feeders such as tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, brassicas, and corn with root vegetables of beets, onions, carrots, and sweet potatoes.  If you live on a hillside, consider planting fire and drought resistant ice plant as a ground cover. Boasting an array of hues, ice plant will also keep the soil from eroding during the rains. Fall is the best time to scatter wild flower seeds, giving them time to germinate before spring. Mixes that include poppies, bachelor buttons, clarkia, lupine, marigold, aster, penstemon, dianthus, coneflower, and sweet William are available in packets as well as containers. Wild flowers attract pollinators...

Executive Insights: 12 Characteristics of Great Leaders By Maureen Metcalf Sep19

Executive Insights: 12 Characteristics of Great Leaders By Maureen Metcalf...

This is a guest post written by Mike Figliuolo. Mike was a Voice America guest on the show Lead Inside the Box and is a respected colleague. The differences between a good leader and a great one boil down to a handful of traits that set the great leaders apart. Fortunately, all these traits are skills you can build over time. Most of us are good leaders. Most of us aspire to be great leaders. Few are. What’s it take to transcend “good” and become “great?” What’s the secret? There isn’t one. The foundation for being a great leader is building a set of traits that inspire people to follow you and achieve outstanding results. In my experience, there are a dozen traits that are required before a leader can even hope to be great. Building and demonstrating these traits does not guarantee greatness. Not by a long shot. But the absence of any one of these twelve traits will definitely hold you back from being great. In no particular order, here are some key leadership differentiators. Great leaders are: Authentic – what you see is what you get. They share their hopes, fears, dreams, and failures. They truly care to know you as a person and want you to know them the same way. They strip away the façade and reveal their true selves to their team every day. Visible – they’re known throughout the organization. They’ve built meaningful relationships with peers, subordinates, and superiors in seemingly every corner of the company. Their reputation precedes them in positive and powerful ways. Influential – they can sway an audience with their words. They can make a case that’s clear and moves people to action. They’re able to explain not only what they want done...

Becky Thompson, PhD, is a scholar, poet, activist and yoga teacher whose work focuses on trauma and healing. She is the author of Survivors on the Yoga Mat and several other books related to social justice and healing. She is Department Chair and Professor of Sociology at Simmons College and a senior level yoga instructor who teaches at conferences, workshops, and community centers internationally. Becky’s poetry can be found in her book, Zero Is the Whole I Fall into at Night as well as The Harvard Review, Tidal Basin Review and Sinister Wisdom. Her honors and awards include Rockefeller and Ford Fellowships, the Gustavus Myers Award for Outstanding Books on Human Rights, the Mosaic Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Creative Justice Poetry Prize. Please visit www.beckythompsonyoga.com  Desc Our attitudes, knowledge and treatment of trauma has changed over time. When I was a child, people rarely spoke openly about trauma. They hid it out of shame or a misguided belief that they should tough it out. Some, like my father, dealt with childhood abuse by creating the outer appearance of a successful, happy family. Others, like my aunt, whose oldest son died in WWII, paced the floor while talking to herself, struggling to find the will to go on. Then counseling became acceptable and dominated the field until drugs became a panacea. Now we know that some things can’t be put into words or solved with a pill. Research shows us that when we have no way of understanding what is happening to us or the skills to process it and let it go, our painful experiences, thoughts and emotions get stored in our bodies. That’s why some of the new work that focuses on healing through the body is so important. Please...

HOW TO BUILD BUSINESS CREDIT AND SECURE FINANCING FOR YOUR STARTUP OR GROWTH VENTURE by Ty Crandall and Hemda Mizrahi Sep13

HOW TO BUILD BUSINESS CREDIT AND SECURE FINANCING FOR YOUR STARTUP OR GROWTH VENTURE by Ty Crandall and Hemda Mizrahi...

Business credit and financing expert Ty Crandall  joined me on “Turn the Page”  to discuss how you can master both personal and business credit—and secure financing for your business, even when commercial banks say “no.” If you have your own business, or are looking to start one, Ty offers additional tips in this post! THE BENEFITS BUSINESS CREDIT Ty shares the following reasons that he encourages companies to build business credit: 1. Business credit separates personal and business liability. As a business owner, by applying for credit using your Employer Identification Number (EIN), rather than your Social Security Number (SSN), you can obtain business credit with no effect to your personal credit. When you apply for business credit, no inquiries are placed on your consumer (personal) credit report, and business credit reports only to the business reporting agencies. You can acquire business credit without a consumer credit check (regardless of the quality of your personal credit). 2. Business credit card limits are 10 to 100 times higher than that of consumer credit. 3. Your can build business credit quickly, securing vendor credit immediately. Major stores grant credit in as little as 60 days, and fleet and cash credit in 120 days or less. 4. Business credit is the only solution in which you, as a business owner can obtain credit even if you don’t have collateral, verifiable cash flow, or good personal credit.  So even a startup business can build business credit. You can create an entity in United States and build business credit, even if you aren’t a U.S. citizen. 5. Business credit is used in almost all business lending decisions.  The quality of a business’s credit determines if the business can obtain a loan, the amount of the loan it gets approved for,...

The Kindness of Strangers By Ariel & Shya Kane Sep12

The Kindness of Strangers By Ariel & Shya Kane...

Have you ever thought about the impact that a simple act of kindness can make, how being generous can ripple out in time and alter a person’s life forever? A young man and his buddy were incredibly kind to my wife Ariel and I and our lives have never been the same. In fact, his unhesitating willingness to be so unstinting with his knowledge, time and expertise became our springboard into the art of fly fishing and it has radically influenced our life paths. Having grown up near the ocean in Far Rockaway, NY, I have always been drawn to fishing, but came to be a fly fisherman somewhat later in life. When I was about 50 years of age, a friend of mine mentioned in passing that I might really enjoy fly fishing and that I should look into it. Not long after, Ariel and I flew to Oregon to visit her family in her hometown of Gresham, a suburb of Portland. While there, Ariel and I borrowed her parent’s car and drove to a local sporting goods store, GI Joe’s. We walked in and saw an entire array of goods from balls and jerseys to hunting gear and guns, but right in the middle of the store there was a case that held fly fishing reels and a stand with fly rods, also. I immediately noticed that while there was at least some similarity to the spin fishing rods that I was familiar with, clearly they were different. A young man stepped up behind the counter. He was medium tall, lean with thick dark hair, wearing a blue button down shirt and chinos. Although he was young, undoubtedly only a year or two out of high school, when he said, “Can I...

Adding Spirituality to Psychology to Heal By Dr. Paula Joyce Sep09

Adding Spirituality to Psychology to Heal By Dr. Paula Joyce...

Dr. Janna Fond, PsyD, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of extensive training and experience working with adults, adolescents and children.  She is the author of Everything Will Be OK: Blending Psychology and Spirituality to Heal Ourselves. Currently, she has a private practice in San Mateo, California where she treats adult individuals and couples. Her success with thousands of clients had been, until recently, a traditional science based approach of psychology. Following the death of her mother, Dr. Fond turned to a psychic medium who opened her eyes to a whole new way of mapping out our past, present and future lives. In, Everything Will Be OK, Dr. Fond shares her methods on how to blend the best of the psychological and spiritual worlds.  I love when people have the courage to use their life experience to learn, grow and create what is unique and authentic to them. Janna Fond is one of those people, and she follows in some big footsteps. To do so, you have to be willing to risk ridicule from those who are not as open as you are. As someone once said to me: If you’re on the cutting edge, sometimes you get cut. I have experienced getting cut. I hope Janna hasn’t because she is definitely on the cutting edge in bringing spirituality into her psychological counseling practice. When I took past life regression therapy training from Dr. Brian Weiss, he spoke about how hard it was to come forward about reincarnation. He risked his reputation and his position as Chairman of Psychiatry at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami. Yet, if you sincerely care about helping people heal, using past life regressions and other spiritual tools can enhance, deepen and...

Blooming with Love By Cynthia Brian...

By Cynthia Brian “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.” Mother Teresa Every artist has her or his muse, a person who inspires, motivates, and encourages creativity. Leonardo had Lisa , Quentin has Uma, Mother Teresa had God, and I credit my mother, Alice, with being my gardening artiste. From the time that I could toddle, I was following her around our expansive gardens planted for both the edibles and the pretties. When she and my dad first moved to their house built at the turn of the 20th century on the 365 acre ranch in the middle of nowhere, it was surrounded by brambles, blackberry bushes, and poison oak. Little by little she painstakingly transformed the prickly jungle into a playful park planted with a myriad of beautiful flowers, herbs, trees, grasses, fruits, and vegetables. I can still smell the sweet fragrance of the spring soil as we tilled the plots designated as the vegetable garden. Mom would plant starts of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, bush beans, string beans, eggplant, and whatever other vegetable caught her fancy for the year. The five kids would be given seeds of radishes, beets, corn, carrots, turnips, squash, and melons to plant as we wished. Onions, leeks, garlic, and Swiss Chard seemed to be in abundance year round as did a big patch of culinary herbs-basil, mustard, chives, dill, fennel, parsley, oregano, marjoram, mints, rosemary, sage, tarragon, and thyme. We didn’t have automatic irrigation.  All of us were responsible for daily watering, pulling hoses for long distances as Mom always did. She showed us how to plant rows, squares, circles, how to soak each plant plentifully, what to weed, and what not to touch. We couldn’t wait until summer when the first tomato...

Romp in Ruth Bancroft Gardens By Cynthia Brian...

“Who cares if I’m not around? If I don’t plant it, then nobody will get to see it!” Ruth Bancroft Since as long as I can remember I have always said that I wanted to live to be 108 years old. Why I chose that number I have no idea as I had never met anyone who lived to be 108…until this week when I met Ruth Bancroft, creator of the Ruth Bancroft Gardens in Walnut Creek. Ruth turned 108 years young on September 2nd and I was privileged enough to celebrate her birthday with bubbly and her favorite chocolate cake in her masterpiece dry gardens that she began planting in the 1970’s. Ruth’s gardening passion began as a child in Berkeley. When she moved through the tunnel to Walnut Creek she became a collector. Her efforts, trials, tribulations, and experiences along the way are chronicled in the new Timber Press book, The Bold Dry Garden, penned by Johanna Silver, the garden editor of Sunset Magazine, and photographed by Marion Brenner. With the entire West coast on drought alert, the Ruth Bancroft Gardens are a model for low-water plantscaping. If you have ever been curious about succulents, cacti, yuccas, and other desert plants that will flourish in the East Bay, this beautiful book will become an essential reference guide. Our local water company states that water use was 24% less in 2015 than it was in 2014, saving enough water to fill the Oakland Coliseum seventy one times! As homeowners rip out lawns in favor of xeriscaping, we’ll focus on the benefits of adding low maintenance, low water use plants, and planting them NOW to your garden. Although I have a lifetime of gardening experience, I’m not sure that I will ever become...

Connect How To Know If He’s Really Your Man By Dawn Burnett Sep07

Connect How To Know If He’s Really Your Man By Dawn Burnett...

Wellness strategist Dawn Burnett has an impressive track record for helping people unlock better health and greater vitality.  Like all of us, however, she has had a life filled with highs and lows. The child of divorced parents and a survivor of abuse, she was in a toxic marriage and then, just after her divorce, was hit by a drunk driver. These events, and the discovery that her son had a life-threatening condition, led her to a wake-up call. Studying to become an alternative medical practitioner to heal her child, she also sought answers on how to heal her own life. Along the way, she charted a course to ultimate wellness on a path filled with valuable lessons, deep wisdom, and insight on a variety of issues—including personal relationships.  She recognized that becoming trapped by the toxic emotions of our past can weigh down our spirit and sabotage any chance we have at happiness today or in the future. The result is Connect, a light but powerful little book that provides humorous yet effective ways to address key issues facing serious relationships. Filled with personal, engaging stories,  complemented by captivating illustrations, it reveals: the pitfalls of dating in the digital age; the many ways we unintentionally sabotage our relationships; why we find ourselves choosing mates from the never-ending ‘carousel of losers’; and how we judge ourselves—and others—without mercy. The antidote is a simple, empowering plan readers can implement themselves to heal their own hearts, pinpoint their true dreams and desires, and find meaningful and lasting bonds with their partners — whether they have already met or are still looking. This amazing little book is big on success, and will help readers finally attain what they outwardly say they want—without the emotional resistance associated with...

You have an idea, you’ve shared it with a few of your friends you’ve written a business plan and then took the plunge not knowing how things would work out. To your surprise or not, they did! Now what? For most entrepreneurs the answer is:  Grow! Grow! Grow! But there are definite challenges. My guest on this episode of the Business Edge is Zain Ali, Managing Partner at Sunbonn, and adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, He will explore three common choices that most entrepreneurs have in front of them. If it’s growth, he then shares his vast experience and methodology as a consultant to major companies as well as a successful entrepreneur and business owner. Listen to the Podcast and Learn: *The biggest mistake he made with the rapid expansion of his company *How to build a management team that is aligned with the culture you are creating. *The big dilemma: Keep or let go of people who are not the right people going forward. *Why it’s important to clearly define the product s and/or services that you will take to market *How to trickle down company goals and values to everyone: It’s communication and measurement. The key take away: It’s OK to borrow money to advance your vision. In the Goldman’s Sach 10,000 Businesses Program he attended, there was an exercise that gave everyone a blank check of a specific amount to spend on their business. He gave his check back because his business was self-funded. What he realized was that to grow, you will need additional funding and that it’s OK to take on realistic...

How Does the Study of Natural Systems Improve International Leadership? By Maureen Metcalf Sep06

How Does the Study of Natural Systems Improve International Leadership? By Maureen Metcalf...

This blog post is a companion to an Interview with Cynthia Cherrey, the President and CEO of the International Leadership association and internationally acclaimed leadership scholar, speaker and practitioner. During the interview, Cynthia discusses the importance of international leadership along with recommendations for important qualities successful international leaders need to demonstrate.   Alexander von Humboldt was a preeminent scientist and, arguably, the father of environmentalism, born in Germany and spent the majority of his life in Europe and the Americas. His travels, exploration, and ecological discoveries were in the Americas.  He trekked the rain forest in Venezuela, climbed the Andes from Columbia to Lima, Perú, and traveled through Mexico up through western North America and points east. He wrote a prodigious number of volumes describing his great journeys throughout the Americas — a chronicle that blended science with poetry. As early as 1800, while his peers were classifying the world into smaller taxonomic units, he was searching for global patterns. The insight for which he is renowned — and which was nearly two centuries ahead of its time —was that the world is a single web-like interconnected system. Today, we readily recognize that we are each part of a complex, web-like interconnected system of information and relationships. But for over 300 years Western scientists operated from a worldview based on the industrial era and a Newtonian (machine-like) way of thinking. Leadership under that paradigm is characterized by, associated with, and embedded in a command and control, fixed hierarchical structure, anchored by positional authority.   In thinking of leadership through the paradigm of natural systems, the leading edge is characterized through the exchange of information, evolution, learning, and adaptive fit. Nature readily illustrates that a living system actively cultivates others — an isolated system is...

Counteracting the Nonsense About Bernie Sanders, Patriotism, Faith, Minorities, World Leadership and the Democratic Convention! By Beth Green Sep01

Counteracting the Nonsense About Bernie Sanders, Patriotism, Faith, Minorities, World Leadership and the Democratic Convention! By Beth Green...

I am not unaware of flaws in Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party – problems about transparency, money in politics and political expediency. Okay, they are still human and coming out of the old political models. But there’s a lot to celebrate, too, and the nonsense that was spewed about the Democratic Convention – even by admirers – needs to be countered. 1. Bernie Hurt the Party by Waiting so Long to Endorse Clinton Total nonsense. Bernie Sanders and his supporters have probably saved the Democratic Party, not only in this election, but for the future. First, he captured the majority of young Democratic voters, including many minorities. That means there’s a future for this party. Second, his movement impacted the Democratic Party Platform and gave Hillary Clinton the ammunition to help combat Trump with disaffected white voters, which might save the election. Economic issues had been swept under the rug for too long, and even if the Democrats don’t win this time around, they finally are standing FOR something. And finally, Bernie had the graciousness and common sense to unite with other Democrats to keep the momentum going for the stands Democrats are increasingly embracing, and he did it at the right time, after the victories of the movement supported Hillary to embrace a more progressive stand. 2. The Democratic Convention Hijacked the Republican Party’s Theme of Patriotism Many Republican commentators remarked that the Democrats stole the theme of patriotism from the Republicans. Again, total nonsense. Is patriotism personified by people who support unjust wars or salute the flag of unbridled capitalism? Or is patriotism personified by people who care for the American people and hopefully all people? Maybe these commentators missed the last two elections where Barack Obama campaigned on a platform...

Trump Is Stirring Up a Lynch Mob: Are We Now Trying to Lynch Donald Trump Too? By Beth Green Sep01

Trump Is Stirring Up a Lynch Mob: Are We Now Trying to Lynch Donald Trump Too? By Beth Green...

If you are anything like me, you are trolling the daily news for the latest “terrible” thing that Donald Trump has articulated or done. And while each simplistic, unconstitutional or bigoted thing he says makes me angrier, it also gives me greater hope that yet another group of voters will finally be persuaded to vote against him. Better yet, I hope that others will feel inspired to rally others against him as well. And that makes me happy. Or does it? When I take this attitude and jump on every big or little thing he says or does, and when I read that others are jumping on the anti-Trump bandwagon as well, I also have to admit that there is a big part of me that is disgusted as much with myself as with him. Oh, yes, and I have to admit that I am also disgusted by the media which I am supporting by reading this stuff. It’s not that I have failed to see that Trump is a thin-skinned egomaniac who will say anything for power. It’s that we are colluding with one another, congratulating ourselves on our obvious superiority, in essence doing the same thing Trump is: uniting against an enemy and doing everything we can to put him down, denying his humanity and making him look stupid, ignorant and like a first-class bully, which he often is. And worse, we are willing to be corrupt, deceptive and self-serving in the process. How Are WE Being Like Trump? Trump will do and say anything for his own purposes, and I’m seeing the same in us. Let me delineate just a few of the ways we are doing this. First, it doesn’t matter what he actually means. What matters is how extreme...

Justin Patrick Pierce and Londin Angel Winters: The “Yoga” of Intimacy. The Way You Work Out Dramatically Affects the Flow of Intimacy in Your Love Relationships By Rebekah Campbell and Boyd Campbell Sep01

Justin Patrick Pierce and Londin Angel Winters: The “Yoga” of Intimacy. The Way You Work Out Dramatically Affects the Flow...

In case you missed the show on August 29, listen to the recorded archive! How you train your body is how you hold your body in life. Spending the day crouched over a computer creates a crouched-over posture. This hides the heart, closes the solar plexus and tightens the hip complex. Stand in front of your partner with a closed-down heart, weakened power center and immobile hips and there will be an impact on the quality of loving energy available. Implement daily exercise strengthening your back muscles to hold the heart open, increasing lung capacity bringing more life force into the body, and flexibility training to unleash the hips improving the grounded power of the lower body. Now show up in front of a loved one with an open heart, full power center and more life force. What might be possible in that love dynamic with all that energy flowing that was not possible when the key power centers were closed? This is one important aspect of the literal “yoga” of intimacy. Justin Patrick Pierce and Londin Angel Winters: Justin and Londin are co-founders of Metaphysical Fitness, an online fitness company specializing in body, mind and spirit training. Both Justin and Londin are NASM Certified master trainers with decades of experience working in the body. They marry to this expertise a decade of study in the esoteric arts, including a deep focus in sexual yoga. They offer weekly in-person classes in Los Angeles, CA, as well as online programs training the divine feminine and masculine embodiments.  ...

Healing Abuse within the LGBTQI Community By Dr. Paula Joyce Sep01

Healing Abuse within the LGBTQI Community By Dr. Paula Joyce...

We all grow up with fears, feelings of not being good enough and insecurities. Now add being told by your family, society and your religion that there is something innately wrong with you, that you need to be fixed, that there is no room in heaven for you and top if off with the belief that God does not love you. How do you have any good feelings about yourself? How do you make it through the day? This is the experience of most people who grew up lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer or intersex. Yes, things are changing, but a lot of damage has already been done through the abuse experienced at the hands of family, society and religion. This abuse seems normal to many and opens the door to abuse within their intimate relationships. If you don’t feel you deserve anything better, it is hard to leave abuse. In fact, you might even have the false belief that no one else could ever love you and that you’re lucky to have anyone at all. Abuse from the Outside Creates Abuse on the Inside We have made progress in many ways. Laws in the United States have opened doors for same sex marriage, which is really about more than marriage. It’s about health insurance, property rights, social security and inheritance. It’s even about assuring that a life partner can no longer be barred from a hospital sick room or a funeral because now there is a legal document protecting them. There are countries, however, where someone can still be legally sentenced to death by stoning because of their sexual preferences. Some places are not safe to travel to as a tourist if you’re part of the LGBTQI community, and as we’ve seen recently...

How to Build a Brand People Can’t Resist. By Marcia Zidle...

Branding is not your logo: it is how people perceive, understand, and react to your business. Branding helps people make decisions about you. But when your brand isn’t consistent or emotional, it can sabotage both your sales efforts and your leadership efforts. My guest on this episode of The Business Edge is Dacia Coffee, the CEO of The Marketing Blender, who helps companies achieve next-level growth by aligning the sales cycle with story, psychology and branding. She loves developing the message and directing the words that connect people to one another and inspire action. Listen to this podcast and learn:: The answers to the four key questions for your brand Examples of amazing brand and what makes them amazing; What’s your “truth” and why it’s so important for your customer How to create a “Buyer Persona” and use it for messaging and differentiation. Branding is about determining the purpose of your business; knowing your customers and their pain points; and communicating what you provide and how you serve them better than others. Healing Abandonment, Heartbreak and Loss By Dr. Paula Joyce Aug26

Healing Abandonment, Heartbreak and Loss By Dr. Paula Joyce...

The word abandonment conjures up images of a mother leaving her baby on the church steps. In actuality, it means that and much more. All of us experience feelings of abandonment, loss and heartbreak from big loss, like sudden death or an unexpected divorce to small losses that chip away at our heart, bit by bit. The losses that we usually minimize or brush away include not being recognized for our successes, being excluded from a party or being ignored when we see a good friend out with someone else. If we do pay attention to these kinds of slights, people often say we’re too sensitive. Because most of us do not want to feel the pain of abandonment, loss or disappointment, we often skip over it or bury it. These unhealthy responses usually result in rage, numbness or depression. Acknowledging that the pain is real and needs to be addressed, sets us on a journey that allows us to feel and heal. Please join us Thursday to learn how to resolve abandonment and overcome self-sabotage. Susan Anderson is the author of The Abandonment Recovery Workbook, as well as Taming Your Outer Child and The Journey from Abandonment to Healing. The founder of the Outer Child and Abandonment Recovery movements, she has devoted the past 30 years of clinical experience and research to helping people resolve abandonment and overcome self-sabotage. Susan is a psychotherapist who through the abandonment recovery movement, offers a program of support groups and new techniques. She leads workshops across the country and reaches out through her website to bring her message of healing to abandonment survivors as well as clinicians. Please visit her online at...

The Business Interpretation of Performance: ENGAGEMENT – “The MAGIC of the Martial Arts of Business Series Aug26

The Business Interpretation of Performance: ENGAGEMENT – “The MAGIC of the Martial Arts of Business Series...

In this path of understanding how to apply Martial Arts principles into our business leaves, we need to know what engagement is and how to bring it into our companies and team members. Engagement can take many forms and as we advance in our deepest knowledge of what we do, we have to learn how to focus, how to make it happen, how to create an engagement environment and above all, how to inspire creativity from our people. This is the third part of what Winston Price and I have called ‘the Martial Arts of Business Series’. From the concept of intent to mind-shift we now come to learning how to be and become engaged. In other words, we will learn how to create an engaged organization. It is very important to anticipate and understand the market place and our businesses; as a result, we need to change our attitude, our vision and our Mind. Thus engaging better we can change our mindset and improve our performance. As we know, Martial Arts are systems and traditions of combat practices, which are practiced for a variety of reasons: self-defense, competition, physical health and fitness, entertainment, as well as mental, physical, and spiritual development. Business and Entrepreneurship, on the other side, are a combination of creative activities that bring out innovation, competition and practices that generate the new ideas and concepts that bring us the best products and services into the market place. Combining them will require discipline, persistence, skills and a creative artist view. And we will be doing all of this focusing on performance, empowerment, motivation and a defining mindset in order to create a stronger level of ENGAGEMENT in our organizations. Develop the “The MAGIC of the Martial Arts of Business Series”. Performing...

Is Your Well-intended Project Oversight Actually Obstructing Progress? By Maureen Metcalf Aug23

Is Your Well-intended Project Oversight Actually Obstructing Progress? By Maureen Metcalf...

This post was written by guest blogger, Kathleen Starkoff, founder, president and CEO of Orange Star Consulting in conjunction with a VoiceAmerica  interview that on aired on August 23: How Can You Successfully Implement Large Scale Change? Most of us have had the occasion to be participants in, or witnesses to, complex mission-critical system-based projects like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) conversions, company mergers, or acquisitions. Personally, I have engaged in hundreds of complex projects, and what often strikes me is the profound impact that overseeing executives can sometimes have that inadvertently complicates the effort. Have you observed any of these common oversight practices and their unfortunate consequences? • Single-dimension coaching is when one parameter, like the implementation date, formally or informally defines success. To be sure, the implementation date is often an important target established, presumably, with good reason. Further, on-time delivery represents a critical and challenging aspect of project management. A simple and emphatic message like “deliver on time” is compelling. When such a focus is established, well-communicated, and emphasized, one can assume that this primary focus will be achieved. Unfortunately, the primary parameter’s success is often achieved at the cost of lesser parameters, like poor quality or missed functionality, the sting of which lives on long after the implementation date. Leaders who coach from a balanced perspective—understanding and appreciating the inter-dependencies of dates, plans, scope, and resources—will encourage better holistic outcomes. Further, leaders who support a preemptive plan for talent, time, and/or financial contingencies for the inevitable unforeseen circumstance, at levels commensurate with the initiative’s complexity, channel the team’s energy solidly on execution. • Overly optimistic coaching is an environment where analysis and reporting tends to be unduly positive because influential leaders, who define the culture, value optimism. In project delivery, like...

Jennifer Henry is passionate about her ability to offer spiritual readings! A reading is a reflection of a person’s “inner process.” It will reflect back to them the deeper meaning behind whatever challenges they may be facing, and through that understanding, come to greater levels of self-love and compassion for others. Readings also offer reassurance about their soul’s journey, and guidance about their highest path and next steps.   They offer insights and understanding about whatever topic is on their mind, help them heal from hardships and loss, and also discover the emotional component that is contributing to health concerns. The Stress Solution By Dr. Paula Joyce Aug19

The Stress Solution By Dr. Paula Joyce...

Stress is not the problem. Whether we react or choose to respond to stress is the key to solving the problem. There is no denying that stress is high and actually increasing in the USA and throughout the world. What is surprising is that a recent survey found that 53% of Americans do not get support from their doctors to manage their stress yet about 70% of doctor visits are stress-related. On top of this, we know that stress hormones cause long-term health problems like a lowered immune system, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, depression and anxiety. Just like stress is not the problem, medication is not the answer. We must get to the root of the problem and solve it. Otherwise, the damage to our bodies is still happening under the surface on a continuous basis. What’s amazing is that we can actually solve the stress problem with empathy, eliminating the negative stories that we tell ourselves and other empowering tools. Please join us Thursday to learn how to de-stress. Arthur P. Ciaramicoli, EdD, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and the chief medical officer of Soundmindz.org, a popular mental health platform with 42,000 registered users and an annualized download rate of 150,000 for three apps Ciaramicoli has developed. Currently in private practice, he has been on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, chief psychologist of Metrowest Medical Center and lecturer for the American Cancer Society. He is the author of several books, including The Power of Empathy, Performance Addiction and Lasting Love, which is now published in 7 languages. Innovative Leaders Driving Thriving Organizations By Maureen Metcalf Aug18

Innovative Leaders Driving Thriving Organizations By Maureen Metcalf...

This post reflects a collaboration between Dr. Dale Meyerrose, major general, U.S. Air Force (retired), president of the MeyerRose Group and Maureen Metcalf, founder and CEO of Metcalf & Associates, and is written in conjunction with a VoiceAmerica interview that aired on August 16, “Emerging Roles of the Board and Cybersecurity.” Many aspire to join boards, and other leaders aspire to manage their boards in order to promote organizational success. Much has been written about responsibilities of boards of directors, but few distinguish those task lists from the essential roles of a board and its directors. By understanding those few, basic requirements of a board, the savvy leader can maximize effectiveness in driving organizational success. Dan walked into the board meeting to discuss the company’s performance and strategy going forward. He was confident that this would be a smooth meeting because he meets regularly with board members and has a clear understanding of their values and past guidance. As a veteran CEO, he understands the importance of working closely with his board and that progress means that the entire senior leadership team is working from the same “sheet of music.” Key to his success as a senior corporate official is to comprehend everyone’s role and anticipate the board’s needs as they work together to ensure the organization’s success. So, what does Dan know regarding “board basics” and roles that allow him to have this confidence? 1. He understands the importance of a collective corporate conscience. Board members must ensure that the entire organization acts in a socially responsible and ethical manner. While it is true that public corporations have the primary goal to deliver stockholder value and create sustained value, they must also act in a legal and responsible manner in the process. We...

In a world where actions speak louder than words, Artist Jenna Rose Simon proves that the healing act of art and the written word can speak volumes when seen through the eyes of those in need of healing. Jenna’s message is that even if you can’t change the world, you can help the life of one person. As an athlete, Reporter of Lion Roar, Katie Lyons considers talking and communicating to be one of the most important components of sports. Body, Mind, and Soul in the Garden By Cynthia Brian...

By Cynthia Brian Kings and cabbages go back to compost, but good deeds stay green forever.  ~ Rick De Marinis Gardening is good for you. It rekindles our passions, arouses our senses, and keeps us in shape.  Gardening is a terrific activity for maintaining joint flexibility, bone density, range of motion, and most of all quality of life. We have to garden wisely, however, if we don’t want to be complaining about aches, pains, bug bites, cuts, and injuries, of which I’ve had more than enough to last my lifetime. Do a good deed for yourself and heed some handy, healthy tips to safer, happy gardening experience. If you are already a gardener, you know the joys and benefits. For those who are about to begin, get ready for a strenuous workout with the music, smells, and tastes of nature. Getting Going 1. If you have any injuries or illnesses, like all activities, consult your physician before beginning. 2. Choose a time of day where you can dedicate an hour or so to the task. 3. Wear a hat, sun block, gloves, and comfortable clothing. 4. Warm up your body with a few stretches or a brisk walk before beginning. 5. Despite your enthusiasm, pace your work and avoid being in the same position for extended periods. For example, if you are weeding, switch to pruning after 45 minutes. 6. Use a hand truck to move large, heavy sacks, and potted plants. 7. Keep your feet on the ground when cutting limbs or harvest fruit. Use a ladder only when you have a spotter. 8. Use the best tools that are strong, yet lightweight. 9. Give your back a break. Too much twisting and bending can cause strain. Consider raised beds as...
