I AM BECAUSE OF YOU

What a powerful statement Deepak shares with us in his 21-Day Meditation Series. I am so grateful to be able to reflect on this with you. WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED. I have always pondered what that truly means and I believe it stems from the fact that we are all united by the goodness that lies within each of us, traits such as kindness towards others, compassion, love, and a need to be accepted. We cannot align with the true self and demonstrate peace, harmony and reconciliation unless we are able to go within and with a quiet heart, recognize the equality among us. We cannot view life with an “us vs. them” mentality. This will only segment us from others. Today, I ask you to open your awareness to see how alike you are with others. Reach out to others with a smile, handshake or offer to assist to rejoice in humanity. When turning inward, you can bring about peace by: 1. Quieting the inner turmoil. Take a few deep breaths and release all the self-limiting beliefs that enter your mind. Focus on the silence. 2. Seek to expand your awareness by looking for the solution within yourself and free of the dispute. This requires having faith in your true self and intuition to guide you to the solution. You create peace from within, from the silent core of your being. When you recognize this, you will free yourself from negativity. Tune in with Kristin every Monday at 7am PST to Intentional...

You just have to stop and listen. Can You? The messages from your heart start off like gentle, nurturing, lapping waves, nipping at your ankles in the beginning. If you choose to ignore listening to the messages, they will only get louder and louder. Imagine there is war going on inside of you and you are stretched so thinly that you could snap in half, this is what it feels like when you defer listening to your heart over a long period of time. Now envision those messages becoming like your worst, wild, anxiety ridden, adrenaline pumping white water rafting nightmare. “If Your Beliefs Are Limitless And Ever-Evolving Then Your Life Will Be Too.” – Oprah...

Are you ready to learn something truly powerful? It only takes one moment of conscious awareness to shift the entire course of your life. I am living proof. My “Do It All, Do It Perfectly, and Never Let Them See You Sweat” mentality took me to a perfect storm situation in which I was deeply grateful to be able to make a conscious choice to change the way I lived my life. Over time, my life has evolved into a life of true abundance and it all started with awareness and a conscious choice. You can do it too. According to Oprah, “Your personal power is not about what you do in your life, it is in how you live within.” I could not agree more. This belief changed everything for me.You hold the key to your natural gifts and unlimited potential to succeed; all you have to do to unlock the door is to believe in yourself. Deepak reaffirms this by saying all we have to do to achieve personal power is align our core beliefs with our true self. You can do this. I believe in you fully! Let’s unlock that door together. A simple shift from self-criticism to self-acceptance can begin the transformation. What can you do today to show yourself you are worthy, loved, secure, and fulfilled? Just one simple act, start small. Journal about each of the core beliefs (I am worthy. I am loved. I am secure. I am fulfilled.) and how they are progressing. Simply observe without judgment and be kind to yourself. We are planting seeds right now and like a garden, we need to nourish it. Let expanded awareness take care of the rest. Realize this journey to activate your true self takes time and...

What Place Do You Choose To Call Home? Nov20

What Place Do You Choose To Call Home?...

When you take a good look at yourself in the morning what do you see? Someone who is not thin enough? Not smart enough? Not pretty enough? Why is there always that sense of lacking something? Why can’t we look in the mirror and see the beauty encompassing our being…the radiance within that shines so brightly if we simply allow it to be seen? You can change your beliefs at any given moment. You can move away from the scarcity mindset into a feeling of gratitude for the abundance in your life simply by focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Deepak says, “Finding a path back to your source is a matter of letting life settle down to where it wants to be. What you seek, you already are.” When you stop looking for change outside of yourself and turn inward and simply allow for the realization of your unique talents and gifts, you unlock your unlimited potential. Like a present waiting to be unwrapped, that beautiful gift lies dormant inside until you choose to reveal it. Start at the source and seek all the answers from within. Don’t follow someone else’s map. Don’t wait for a miracle. Follow the flow of your awareness. Don’t resist what is ready to manifest inside if only given the chance. Open yourself to the unknown and stop censoring what you intuitively know to be true. Reach beyond yourself and be genuine and speak your truth. The truth will set you free of your ego and self-limiting beliefs. Let the center be your home. According to Deepak Chopra, the next time you see your life from a place of lack, instead you can: – Say, “This situation may be shaking me, but I am more than...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 – Nothing Can Prepare You For The End Nov20

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 – Nothing Can Prepare You For The End...

This closing film to The Hunger Games trilogy shows Katniss Everdeen, the reluctant leader of the rebellion leading an army against President Snow. Her tragic journey finally comes to an end with this emotional finish. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Clayton P. comments, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is surprisingly more creative and suspenseful than all the prior films in the franchise.” See his full review below.   The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Clayton P., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 16 Video review   The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is surprisingly more creative and suspenseful than all the prior films in the franchise.  However, there are a couple of things about the film that are not fantastic. I don’t think that Jennifer Lawrence does a great job in this film. It seems as if she was asleep throughout the movie.  This film again stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hucherson as Peeta Mellark. They are supported by Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.  The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, who directed all the Hunger Games films except the first.   At the beginning of the film, Katniss is recruited by Commander Coin (Julianne Moore) to lead the rebellion. They really want her to be the “face” of the rebellion and film fake skirmishes for the ever present media. Katniss plays along but her intent is to assassinate President Snow.  Snow is ready for the rebellion. His generals plant POD traps (obstacles designed to release a weapon that can range from a bomb to a group of mutts) all over the Capital, which are motion sensitive.  When someone comes near, flame throwers engulf them or huge machine guns appear and blow them up. ...

Cynthia Brian’s Gardening Guide for November...

By Cynthia Brian “The small but intense pleasure of walking through dry leaves and kicking them up as you go…they rustle, they brustle, they crackle.” From Walking through Leaves, Vita Sackville-West From the last rays of the autumn sun to the glowing embers of winter fires, November is a month of changing colors and softening light creating feasts for our eyes (and our Thanksgiving stomachs) while adding a warm glow to our hearts. The countryside is bathed with leaves turning gold, crimson, russet, and orange. The harvest features a bounty of pumpkins, gourds, and nuts. The crackle of the fallen leaves underfoot, the balmy days, chilly evenings, and misty nights signal the sensational spectacle of autumn. It’s time to put our gardens to bed. For the past few weeks I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a selection of the great chateaus, castles, palaces, and gardens in France and England. Crossed off my bucket list was the romantic landscape of Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent designed by author Vita Sackville-West. It was interesting to note how many of the 22,000 annuals, perennials, and herbs grown in her garden have established themselves nicely here in California. It’s time to plant your bulbs, especially tulips. Having lived in Holland for eighteen months, I truly understand and value the humble tulip. Found in the wilds of central Asia, the first tulip bulbs were planted at Holland’s Hortus Botanicus Leiden in 1593. Tulips were so highly sought after that Dutch growers around Haarlem devoted every minute to hybridization and cultivation resulting in one tulip bulb being so valuable that it could buy an Amsterdam house on the canal or twenty-five acres of prime farmland. Besides cheese, gin, and herring, tulips reigned as kings of exportation. Tulipmania speculation collapsed in...

Love the Coopers – Fantastic dramady about dysfunctional families and holidays Nov18

Love the Coopers – Fantastic dramady about dysfunctional families and holidays...

This new Holiday “dramady” from Jessie Nelson will brings tears and laughter to your face. It reminds me of a Nora Ephron film with all the family and personal drama going on all at once. There is a bit of profanity and mild sexuality so I wouldn’t take your younger kids but, for teens it’s a must-share! It has a great ensemble cast led by Diane Keaton and John Goodman who make a very believable couple with kids and grandkids that are all slightly off kilter. Steve Martin, who narrates the film through the eyes of the family dog, is the glue that holds the story together. And, the love story between Angie and Sergeant is truly a highlight of the film. As Leo Tolstoy said, “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” But, look out! You might just see your own family in this film. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Mia A. comments, “My two favorite characters are Joe and Eleanor, played by Jake Lacy and Olivia Wilde, because they have great chemistry together and I kept rooting for them to finally become a couple.” See her full review below.   Love the Coopers By Mia A, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 11 Love the Coopers directed by Jessie Nelson is a holiday comedy full of subplots that get many of the people in the audience laughing.  This movie is packed with big stars such as John Goodman, Diane Keaton, Alan Arkin, Marisa Tomei and Amanda Seyfried.   This movie is about an extended family, the Coopers who come together every Christmas and have a big family dinner party. It’s about how their individual lives and how their family acts when they are together.   My two...

Don’t Let Fear Control Your Life...

I believe we have 2 choices in life: we can choose to live our lives from a place of fear or we can embrace faith to guide us to a more fulfilling future. Most people will spend their lives living at the effect, feeling controlled by outside stimuli. Their minds will not penetrate what it means to live from their essence or core beliefs. Instead, they will place all their time and energy into reacting. If you reflect back on a time where you were really scared, you can recall how you probably felt powerless over external situations or people. Some people choose to live their entire lives from this place which leads to controlling behaviors and can result in patterns of abuse. People who choose to live from this place run the risk of becoming imprisoned by the mind. In contrast, people who live according to their core beliefs will not feel threatened by others. When their buttons are pushed they will not feel the need to react but rather to lean into the emotions and discover something about themselves. Because they feel worthy, their focus is to get closer to living from their core beliefs every day.  They are able to see the opportunity to learn and grow in moments that are stressful. A simple shift of the mind creates an entirely different reality. When we choose growing over living in fear we allow our minds to expand. An awareness of our supreme self and a belief in our wholeness will easily dissolve our limiting beliefs, allowing us to blossom into our most authentic selves. This is a conscious choice we make every day. When we can live at the cause rather than the effect, we can find an inner state of...

Catching a Communicable Ease Nov13

Catching a Communicable Ease...

Catching a Communicable Ease by Ariel Kane Have you ever noticed how the attitude with which you approach life influences your experience of your day and can impact the way others around you go about theirs? I once had a sweet reminder of this that had me quietly smiling to myself as I went about my day. It was a frigid Tuesday morning in winter and my husband Shya and I had a routine appointment with our country doctor. His office is a small country affair, which looks like it belongs more in a rerun of Mayberry RFD (a television show about small town Middle America that aired from the late sixties to early seventies) with Opie and Aunt Bee than it does in modern day America. One would not guess at first glance that this doctor was one of the most caring, comprehensive and progressive doctors around. Not only is he an internist, practicing at the local hospital, but he also practices homeopathic and Ayurvedic medicines. However, this physician is famous amongst his patients is being chronically late. We have encouraged many friends to see him but we always warn people to plan to be there for an extended period as his schedule is rarely, if ever, on time. We plan for it as well. It is part of the culture of his office. When weather permitted, we took a walk before our appointment. Arriving on time, we signed in, gave Nurse Nancy our cell number and she called us when he arrived. This allowed us to stroll over a nearby bridge spanning the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania where we watched carp and bass and at times, shad swim down below. Snow geese frequented the shores and it was a...

The Gift of Healing Nov13

The Gift of Healing

Every week, Express Yourself!™ will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens. What is the meaning of care, and how do you heal both inside and out? Hosts Brigitte Zia and Zahra Hasanain read from Be the Star You Are!® for Teens the chapter, The Gift of Healing by prominent physical therapist, Arlyn Van Dyke about his childhood accident that lead to him becoming a healer. They then travel across the pond to the Emerald Isle with a fascinating interview with author of The Summer King, Orla Melling. Melling’s books of young adult fantasy weave spiritual themes with high adventure in the tradition of her favourite author, C.S. Lewis. Her bestselling series The Chronicles of Faerie  was listed among the American Library Association’s Top Ten Fantasy Books for Youth and Top Ten Youth Books for the Environment. Art can be very calming and serene and in our last segment, Art Attack reporter, Brigitte shows us the power of healing art. Each and every one of us harbors a doctor within. Heal thyself! Bio: O.R. Melling OR Melling was born in Ireland and grew up in Canada with her seven sisters and two brothers. At eighteen she hitch-hiked to California, seeking adventure. A year later, she was off to Malaysia and Borneo on a youth exchange program. That set her motto for life “to travel hopefully” and she has ended up in other wonderful countries such as India and Outer Mongolia. During her years at university, Melling was a reservist with the Royal Canadian Navy, gaining the Queen’s Commission and the rank of Sub-lieutenant. She has a B.A. in Philosophy and Celtic Studies and an M.A. in Medieval Irish History. Melling’s...

The Time is Now

Yesterday a new moon symbolized this manifestation period we are entering where  we can shed our old skins and release whatever is not working. This is a cycle of completions and new beginnings. Think about what might need to be wrapped up and brought closer to completion in your life. What doors are opening up for you? Where are you ready to go to the next level? Where can you leverage this powerful universal energy to make positive changes in your life? Dive deep and reach for your real power. This is about healing you….your heart and your mind. This moon can heal your heavy heart. Let go, surrender and connect with your soul. What is it trying to tell you through its soft whispers? What experience in your life has been a constant struggle for you? Now is finally a time to take care of you and love yourself more than something or someone in your life. I know how difficult and uncertain that task may seem but there comes a time where we need to stop giving our power away to other situations and people if we truly want to manifest a better life. We cannot stay stuck simply because it is easier and less confrontational. Listen to your core, trust your intuition and take a stand. The universe is completely aligned and ready to support you fully. During this period think of your body as a sacred container. Nourish it with good food, exercise, loving kindness and a deep respect and compassion for your entire being. Claim who you are at your core and get clarity on what you desire. This is much easier to do with a nourished channel or container. Strip away and shed the rest. If you don’t,...

How Long Will You Stare At The Closed Door?...

Helen Keller was so very wise when she stated, “Often we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one that has opened us for us.” When we dare to open our eyes to the door’s surroundings and free ourselves from our tunnel vision, we gain an awareness of what else might serve us better or why we were spared what’s behind the closed door. Sometimes we just need to walk away from those closed door. There are other times that perhaps we need to open that door and stop being paralyzed by our fears and self-limiting beliefs. Our intuition may tell us that whatever is behind that door is worth investigating. How do we know you may ask. We know when we can center ourselves through meditation and tap into that answer. We simply need to quiet the mind chatter long enough to let our core (our mindful brain attached to our heart) tell us what we need to do. Today, I invite you to find that all-knowing place. Go within and ask yourself what actions you need to take to free yourself from your self-limiting beliefs. Don’t let your painful past tell you to play it safe. Every situation is a new opportunity to make a change for the better. Today is a new day. A day to pick up the pen and start writing your next chapter of your life. Don’t wrap your choices up in the entangled web of your distorted beliefs that have you feeling unworthy of change, love, and a sense of belonging. Every day can bring you closer to the light of your true self. Let that light and awareness become your guide. It will never steer you wrong. Your brightest future awaits....

Consciousness Expansion on the Journey of Transformation Nov10

Consciousness Expansion on the Journey of Transformation...

The Power of Transformation – Pathway to Enlightenment with Brigitte Boyea and St. Germain is a unique radio show series supervised, guided and directed by St. Germain, Master of Transformation, and channeled by Brigitte Boyea. Many current world issues will be addressed. Other divine Masters and Angels as representatives of the Seven Sacred Rays will also be introduced throughout this series to offer their wisdom to the audience. In this fifth episode of their radio show Brigitte and St. Germain will focus on the power of transformation as well as the consciousness expansion that is triggered by a unique multi dimensional portal that opens every year on 11/11. Whenever we experience the date 11/11 during the month of November, we receive extra support by the Hierarchy of Light in order to move our consciousness further into alignment with universal love, peace and oneness. This also means a time of releasing what no longer serves us in the days leading up to 11/11. This then in turn will make room for the new frequency down load on 11/11 and the birthing of a new consciousness. During this radio show, St. Germain will explain the significance of the 11/11 portal and the consciousness expansion as a result of its unique galactic frequency. He will then take you on an inner journey to lead you across a threshold into a new consciousness of love, peace and joy. Much has been written about St. Germain, some of it true and some of it a human interpretation to conceptualize the unexplainable.  His intent for creating this radio show series is not only to assist you in the transformation of your own personal life, but also in the transformation of planet Earth through you as a channel and instrument of...

You Already Have All You Need To Succeed...

What a revelation to know that you already have everything you need to succeed…all just waiting to be accessed deep within your core. Jim Cary was once a struggling actor and he believed in this idea so much that he wrote himself a check for 10 million dollars. A few years later, he was able to cash that check. This shows the power of our beliefs. This is not one random coincidence. We are the creators of our thinking and therefore, we have the power to shift our reality and ultimately, our destiny. It is only our inaccurate limited beliefs that hold us back in life. When we are able to recognize that these beliefs are actually what prevent us from striving to achieve our dreams, we can discover how simply changing our beliefs can shift the entire course of our journey in life. Here are 3 steps to shift your thinking today: 1. Examine the areas of your life where you are selling yourself short. 2. Select one are where you desire greater fulfillment. 3. Take action. Pick one simple act a day to start taking to demonstrate your belief in higher expectations for yourself. Tune in Monday’s at 7am PST to Intentional...

Join Marina Rose, QDNA® and Mallika Chopra at 3:00pmPST on 11/10/15. QDNA® Living with Intent, Love, Positive Passion™ and Purpose with author Mallika Chopra and Marina Rose, QDNA®. Oprah Winfrey stated, “The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be.” Life is meant to be lusciously lived, loved and appreciated. Life is meant to be simple. We are able to live like this when we’re able to get out of our own way. We talk about living consciously and mindfully. A lot of us do live consciously and mindfully when it comes to others. How many of us really live consciously and mindfully regarding our own lives? Do you ever stop and ask yourself what is important in your life? Life can be so simple when we nurture ourselves and our truths. Part of this journey is taking a different action towards what we want in our life. Can life be that simple that we can ask for what we want with our intentions and we get them without exhausting ourselves? Mallika Chopra, author of ‘Living with Intent’ believes that to live a life that is meaningful, inspiring and fun we must first identify our intents, grow the seeds of our deepest longings then state them and pursue them. Explore intents, create the life you want to live and put the process in motion. http://www.mallikachopra.com Mallika Chopra is a mom, media entrepreneur, public speaker and published author. Turf Wars

“We need to teach people that the environment has a direct bearing on our own benefit.” Dalai Lama As Americans, we love our grass, but as the years of drought drag on, the word L-A-W-N is becoming synonymous with wasteful. Daily in the USA, over 29 billion gallons of water is used and of that, 30% or 8. 5 billion gallons of water is devoted to our landscaping, mostly lawns.  In arid states, the percentage of landscape water usage soars to over 60%.  Add to this the amount of chemical fertilizers and weed controllers utilized on grass, and we have a recipe for ecological disaster. The media bombards us with messages informing us that it is time to tear our the water guzzling, chemically infused turf and replace it with drought tolerant, native landscaping, shrubs, ground covers, or gravel. Many water districts offer rebates for each square foot of lawn that is replaced. Yet, as much as I believe in water conservation and fully understand that water is our most precious natural resource, I am not convinced that ripping out waves of green will solve our water shortage.  Protecting our water supply depends critically on changing how we care for our lawns. An alternative solution to the high maintenance, chemical dependency, and water waste must be available somewhere. A lawn has many positive benefits. It generates oxygen, helps control erosion, decreases air temperatures, sequesters carbon dioxide, and filters runoff. A lush emerald swath of turf gives our eyes a relaxing break and offers our families a place to play, tumble, picnic, or simply walk barefoot.  It makes me sad when I stroll through my garden and my thirsty brown lawn crunches beneath me. Future generations many not enjoy memories of somersaults, cartwheels, croquet, or...

Illuminate Your Hidden Beliefs To Reveal Your True Self...

We all have hidden beliefs that keep us playing small and limit our potential in life. We keep them hidden because we think it is easier to avoid and deny them than to bring them to the surface. However, by stuffing them we create conditions that will ultimately lead to some form of self-destruction or negative consequences. It is like submerging a beach ball under water. We can do that for a little while but eventually the ball is going to pop to the surface and the more we submerge it the greater the negative consequence. Our hidden beliefs serve as traps and needless obstacles that prevent us from making great strides to achieving our dreams in life. They tell us “we’re not good enough,” “it is better to play it safe than try something new,” “no one is really listening anyway,” and so on. These beliefs will never go away either unless we shine light on them. They become relentless mind chatter that chip away at our feelings of worth, purpose and strength. They take us further and further away from our unique gifts and true self. They develop out of protection the first time we fail at something and they bring us comfort in knowing that by listening to them, we might not fail again. These beliefs are so painful to hold onto. We are born of unconditional love and acceptance and as we go through life it is these beliefs that have us feeling defenseless against challenging events and powerless in life. When we shine light on these beliefs, they slowly lose power and the grip that they have on our life begins to loosen. We begin to see how absurd and inaccurate they really are because at our core, we...

You Are What You Believe...

Think back to when you were a young child and you lived life full of wonder, curiosity and a strong belief that you could accomplish almost anything you set out to achieve. When asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, you easily tapped into your true gifts and innate abilities and selected the profession in which you felt you would experience the most fulfillment. There were no restrictions or self-limiting beliefs about it; you knew without a doubt it was the job that brought you delight and revealed your unique brilliance. Now fast forward 20 years or more. How did that belief and vision change over time? How have the tags and labels you’ve acquired guided you to your chosen profession? Has it worked in your favor and are you feeling fulfilled in your life? Or, can you notice how the labels related to your age, gender, race or nationality and the biases associated with them may have limited your ability to occupy your desired profession? What else may have prevented you from stepping onto the path aligned with your natural gifts? Maybe it is fear that you might fail. Perhaps it is feelings of uncertainty. Now remember how those same feelings as a child propelled you to take a risk and enjoy the adventure. Today, simply observe, without judgment, how your feelings have changed over time. Stand In Your Truth

Much of my coaching centers around helping others to stand in their truth and demonstrate a love of oneself. Why is it so hard for us to do this? Why do we serve others so easily yet when it comes to walking our path to the expression of our highest self we struggle to let go of the shackles that keep us trapped in our lives? I find it helpful to think about the advice you would give a loved one when you can’t find the confidence and security you need to make these difficult choices for yourself. I remember when I was contemplating my divorce and I did an exercise in which I imagined my daughter coming to me with the same dilemma. It then became crystal clear what actions I needed to take. The inner critic that chimes in relentlessly with thoughts of us not being worthy to stand up for ourselves usually wins. Next time you hear that voice, take a stand and don’t listen. Search to find that place in yourself that exists outside of your head and knows what is best for you. Guard your life like you would for a loved one and celebrate the courage to do this. And if you need a little help, I’m always here to guide and empower you until you can do this on your own. Tune into Intentional Living Every Monday at 7am...

Emotional Intimacy Nov03

Emotional Intimacy

We’ve got just about three areas of endeavor as adults at which we may feel either successful or unsuccessful: relationship, parenting and work. Two of those areas have something to do with the emotional intelligence. One of the reasons we have trouble with emotions is that we are taught to control them—in effect to push them out of conscious awareness. They then become substrates of our actions, which can only erupt through passive/aggressive or even aggressive behaviors. How then will we ever understand emotional intimacy? Our guest today is here to help us with that. Robert Masters, PhD, bestselling author of Spiritual Bypassing, Emotional Intimacy and Knowing Your Shadow not only helps us understand emotions and how to work with them but also how to relate to others through emotional intimacy—a primary element of successful relatedness.  Don’t miss it. Don’t miss Authentic Living 11/4/15, 1 pm PT/4 pm ET, a special encore with Robert Masters, PhD discussing emotional...

Gratitude

When my wife was dying, we were both sponges for anything that brought meaning to our experience and inspired us. Friends got in on the act, bringing us poems, art, anything that would help us connect with life while recognizing how short hers was likely to be. I don’t remember who brought us the poem Kindness by Naomi Shihab Nye, but for the past 20 years, I retained the essence of the first two lines: “Before you know what kindness really is You must lose things, Feel the future dissolve in a moment Like salt in a weakened broth.” The idea connected for me; that we were learning to open our hearts, to find our kindness, in the midst of this challenging time. The poem gave me a sense that this was livable, that I might be able to discover hidden treasures in the mud. So when I read Elaine Mansfield’s book, Leaning into Love, before having her on Good Grief, I was stunned to find that poem in the book, creating meaning for Elaine and her husband Vic during his illness too. I told Elaine about it, and she immediately said, “You have to have Naomi on your show.” This was, in itself, an act of great kindness and left me in wonder at what I am offered in the process of hosting Good Grief, especially the amazingly generous people I am privileged to meet. Not only did Elaine share this idea, but she helped me to make it happen. And so, on November 4th at 2 Pacific time, I will have the great honor of welcoming Naomi Shihab Nye to Good Grief. Even better, we will be talking about her book, Transfer, which she wrote after the death of her beloved father,...

Why Are You Fighting the Inevitable?...

When we fight the inevitable, we are delaying our destiny. If something is clearly over and you are clinging to it despite the pain it is causing you, you are doing yourself an injustice. Don’t stick around trying to fix what is clearly broken. Know that you deserve the best and don’t settle for less. ‘Letting go’ is not ‘giving up. Don’t waste your time in mediocrity when you were meant for GREATNESS. There are so many emotions on the path to greatness and living an authentic life. I think all of us can identify a time where we stayed in a job or a relationship hoping it would just resolve itself over time, and we lived life for a while feeling “stuck.” Think back to that time in your life. Did you feel grateful? Overjoyed? Probably not. Why? Because you were living a life of mediocrity. You weren’t living life wholeheartedly. Your true purpose in life was not being fulfilled. You were most likely afraid to step out of your comfort zone on the path to achieving more until things became so bad that you felt you had no choice. This can be a lifetime for some. Wasted time in that case. For others, maybe the lesson far outweighed the short struggle. Either way…our awareness of these circumstances and our courage to achieve more is a huge feat. Keep Going. Each step may get harder but don’t stop. The view at the top is...

QDNA® The Quantum Health Model: The Live Biological Human Being discover it with Dr. Amit Goswami and Marina Rose, QDNA® Join Marina Rose, QDNA® and Dr. Amit Goswami at 3:00pmPST on 11/3/15. “Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” Albert Einstein. The Quantum Health Model believes that your health is a biological expression of your thoughts, your feelings and your emotions. You are a live biological human being. There is no separation between you and your health regardless of how many ways you to try to analyze it and talk yourself out of it. Would you like to find out how to have your health treated consciously as a live biological human being? The newtonian mechanical machine medicine model is outdated with treating people as machines instead of medically treating them as a human being. Theoretical Physicist, Amit Goswami, PhD author of ‘Quantum Doctor’, pioneer of the new paradigm of science called ‘Science within Consciousness’ states, “If there is any field that needs integration, it is medicine. The weaknesses of the conventional medical model is that it is too invasive and has too many harmful side effects.” He shows us how new physics can integrate the disparate models of conventional medicine and alternative medicine. Our brilliant guest is Theoretical Quantum Physicist Dr. Amit Goswami is a retired full professor from the University of Oregon’s Department of Physics. Persevere…You Are Worth It!...

I’ve been on a life journey since losing my mom in May 2013 to Ovarian Cancer. I remember thinking the grief I felt that day would be with me forever, leaving me to feel the heaviness of sorrow from that day forward. I had 3 young girls to take care of and I was not going to let this huge loss be my breaking point. My children needed me. I had to “show up.” I had to be brave. I had to be courageous despite feeling like I was crumbling into a pile of sand. The journey was rocky but moment by moment life went on. In January 2014, I realized my marriage was over. After 10 years, I realized that all that we invested was no longer enough. Our paths were no longer intertwined; our lives were not supporting the authentic people we were destined to become. This moment in time was extremely scary. I adored my children, and could not fathom spending time apart from them as I knew a divorce would inevitably create with split custody. I had to make a decision. Do I stay to keep the family intact or do I leave, allowing myself to experience vulnerabilities far greater than I dreamed possible?  I had to muster courage in the face of fear and reach deep inside my core in search of the answer. I had to stand tall when I felt knocked over and do what I felt was best for our family. I am now divorced and life is very different. However, our new normal is really good. Little did I know that these two events were life-defining moments.  They opened a door that revealed who I was. At 40, I thought I knew that answer but...

You Reap What You Sow in Life...

In life, we all have to deal with some kind of loss or disappointment: the loss of a loved one, loss of a job, loss of a dream, or even the loss of a relationship. It’s tempting to feel like something was taken away from us or something was stolen. You can have one of two attitudes. You can say, “It’s not fair. I don’t understand how this could happen to me?” You can get angry, bitter and pass blame. But what if you take that loss and sow it as a seed? By doing this I mean what if you approach loss with faith, hope, strength, and forgiveness? We believe whatever we tell ourselves. There is no reality – only perception. We trust ourselves…why would we lie inside our own heads? When we find the blessing or lesson to be learned, we can also find the strength we never knew we had and triumph. The problem with life is there are so many outside forces that can impact the way we see the world and ourselves. Over time, this programming can force us to live our lives according to a false set of beliefs that we’ve held so long we take them as gospel truth. And when we allow past hurts, prejudices, and distorted preconceptions to take root and rule our lives, these negative assumptions can create a self-fulfilling prophecy because we’ll create the results we think we deserve. The message here is to take a step back and try to look at situations more objectively. How can you do this? One thing you can do is take a break from the nightly news. Think about it, how much negative energy is generated from simply watching the news? The news is one of...

Living, Growing, Totally Spooky...

By Cynthia Brian “To the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.” William Blake The season of screams and scares is officially here! Halloween is right around the corner, and it’s time to embrace your inner ghoul. With only a few days left until a haunted eve, a walk in the park or around your personal garden will spark your spooktacular spirit as you encounter everyday species that ignite eerie imaginings, yet are friendly visitors. It’s time to put out our mystical welcome mat. Children have feared spiders since the days of learning the nursery rhyme “Little Miss Muffet”. We may not want them living in our homes, but in the garden spiders are considered beneficial bugs. There are generally two types of spiders-the weavers and the hunters. The big, beautiful, yet scary looking yellow and black argiope spider (Golden orb weaver) spins a web that catches garden predators twice her size while the hunters, the wolf spider and the crab spider, ambush their prey. Even their names evoke Halloween myths. These helpful arthropods (meaning eight legs) are considered more efficient eaters than our feathered friends eradicating aphids, spider mites, leafhoppers, armyworms, caterpillars, beetles, thrips, and other nuisances. Don’t squish the spiders nor destroy their webs because spiders are positive pest patrollers of our secret oasis. Allium sativum is renowned for repelling vampires. But the next time you witness darting dive-bombers of the dark, hide the garlic to usher in the bats. Contrary to common thought, these North American “vampires” do not attack people. Mosquitoes bite people and bats eat more than 600 mosquitoes per hour. Their droppings are rich in nitrogen and they guard gardens from invasive insects. If you have a pool, you’ll witness them skimming the water at...

Stay True to You With Acts of Self Respect...

Our first and last love is self-love which is portrayed to the world through actions reflecting self-respect. Clint Eastwood once said, “Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self-respect leads to self-discipline. When you have both firmly under your belt, that is real power.” Now that I’m a parent, I often reflect on my own childhood and am so grateful for my parents teaching me self-respect from a very young age. It truly is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give to their children. I now know that self-esteem is built on self-respect, and showing respect is a skill that takes time to learn. When you are able to love yourself, it is much easier to take on challenges and bounce back from any fall. This resilience enables children to embrace opportunities in their path, and high self-esteem becomes their optimistic fuel for exploring the world. The good news is, it’s never too late to learn or hone this skill. That resilience that grounded me through my early life has been tested many times through parenting, especially now that I’m a single parent. Parenting through a divorce is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I know there are many of you out there who know that all too well. I recently came across an amazing book on this topic entitled, Get the Behavior You Want… Without Being the Parent You Hate by Deborah Gilboa, MD. How many of you can relate to that title?  Parenting challenges us in SO MANY ways on a daily basis, and a major life transition can really make it difficult to push aside feelings of guilt and continue to discipline children through some rocky moments where it would be so much easier to give in....

It rather stands out nowadays that less and less people are managing their lives successfully...

SPIRITUAL EDUCATION. Oct 26, 2015, 2:00 pm PST (VoiceAmerica Women). It rather stands out nowadays that less and less people are managing their lives successfully. On the surface there seem to be plenty of reasons: stress, economical challenges, the daily grind in our work, problems in our private life, health problems, you name it….On closer examination though, we must recognize that simultaneous to our personal lives there are huge changes happening around the globe. A couple of years ago our planet has entered a new phase in its history which has brought about the beginning of a transformational process that will only deepen as it continues. Mother Earth is changing, and her children with it. Even scientists and sociologists are in agreement about this phenomenon – check the current literature! As we are all in the midst of it, many of us are confronted with the question what to do about this new energy……do we rebel against it or do we look for meaningful integration?...

Aligning on Your Path...

Back in March, I had a wake up call that made me realize I was living my life on autopilot as I was simply trying to keep my head above water following the death of my mom and a divorce. I was so focused on making sure my dad’s and my children’s needs were met that I completely neglected my own. Grace intervened. Sometimes your soul is not hearing or seeing the warning signs that you are veering off your path and a greater force needs to wake you up. My soul was asleep due to my preoccupation with all my urgent tasks to keep my family on their path to their best life despite the hardships we were experiencing. Fortunately, I was open to leaning into all the pain and grief I had been stuffing deep inside of me and I opened the flood gates to let it all out. I cried for what seemed like a solid 24 hours and I felt 10 pounds lighter after releasing it. This was followed by a period of self-reflection, time with myself to listen to my gut feelings, an observation of the consequences I had created in my world every day and the realization that I alone was accountable and responsible for my life’s achievements and mistakes. Sometimes this realization is one people are never willing to accept, leaving them no choice but to live at the effect of life.  However, when you choose to live at the cause of life, you get to decide how the remaining chapters play out. I wanted to find out who I really was and what ignited that spark in me so I could begin to live passionately. I did some values exercises and gained clarity on what I...

There are no mistakes, only life lessons...

Life is a series of moments in which we are constantly making choices. Choices of varying degrees of significance. Some choices are simple with little consequence and others can be life altering. Some make us feel proud and internally grateful; others can make us feel sad, regretful, and vulnerable. Keeping an open mind during vulnerable moments in life is not an easy task. It takes courage and discipline to throw away our crutches and habitual ways to face life without any blinders. I’ve been there…I know. It requires a willingness to move beyond ingrained ways of thinking. A willingness to transcend fear, accept the facts as they are, and stand on unfamiliar ground. All choices in life hold a lesson for us.  Making good or bad choices teach us important lessons about ourselves. We learn over time what works and what does not work for us. When things are not working, we have the ability to make new choices and take a new path. It’s never easy to admit you’ve made a mistake, but it’s a crucial step in learning, growing, and improving yourself. Here are 4 steps to help you press on to brighter days: 1. Take some time to experience the emotion the mistake brings. 2. Realize we are all human and mistakes happen. Accept responsibility and forgive yourself. 3. Find the lesson that’s hidden in your current situation. Ask yourself, what can you do differently next time a similar situation arises that led to the mistake? 4. Live and learn. Move forward with integrity and grace. Your past mistakes are meant to guide you, not define you.   Tune in to Intentional Living Mondays at 7am PST...

Breaking Banks host and Founder/CEO of digital only neo-bank Moven, Brett King scores a $12 million funding round for Moven.  This follows and $8million funding round last July that was led by Sberbank-owned SBT with support from Route 66, Standard Bank and Anthemis, topping up a $2.4 million seed round in 2012. Moven initially pitched itself as a mobile-based alternative to traditional banks in its home market of the US but has taken a more cooperative approach in other markets, inking licensing deals with TD Bank in Canada and WestPac in New Zealand. In May, it sealed an alliance with Accenture to develop and sell digital tools to financial services firms around the world. Where is Your Peace? Oct20

Where is Your Peace?

If you are like most people, at some point in your life you begin to think that lasting peace or happiness will forever elude you. You may have had periods of satisfaction or contentment but deep, abiding peace seem to be impossible. This is a profound moment of possibility, because for the first time you are wondering about one of the most basic elements of the living experience—our own peace. Why is it that peace is so elusive? Is it possible for us to really have and own our peace? If so, how do we do that? Today we are going to be talking to Christopher Papadopoulas, author of “Peace And Where To Find It”, who is going to help us answer some of these very important questions. Don’t miss it. Tune in to Authentic Living Wednesday 10/21 at 1pm...

Crossroads of Life

Have you ever found yourself in a position where all you have worked toward is right in front of you, but instead of a simple black and white decision you are presented with a handful of options? None clear cut. None with reassurance of long term happiness. This situation embodies one of the most complicated tasks any of us will face in life – the concept of making the right decision. Every few seconds we have the opportunity to change our lives, our careers, our future, and the lives of many others, some of which we will never meet. You already have the tools to succeed. It’s simply a mindset you need to access at the crossroads of life. Success is right there on the horizon. The question remains, how do you navigate the path ahead? Here are some keys to weathering life’s crossroads: 1. Have a little faith and trust your gut. We all know, deep within ourselves, what we need to do — what we know, how to think, when to trust — during times of crisis. We can learn to access and trust our innate wisdom; it is personal and always available. When we don’t follow our inner guidance, we feel a loss of power and energy. 2. Move ahead with purpose. Pick one option, commit to it, and get moving with focused intention. Climb that mountain. 3. Take in the scenery. Once you’re moving, you’ll quickly feel whether it’s the right direction for you. Be in the moment and respect the value of being here and now. Allow yourself to feel the feedback that comes from action. 4. Adjust your course accordingly. Evaluate where there is room for improvement. Consider all the factors that led to the consequences and adjust...

Avoid Friendship Problems: Use Mentalization Oct19

Avoid Friendship Problems: Use Mentalization...

There is considerable evidence that friendships enhance our physical and emotional well-being. A recent study by John Cacioppo at the University of Chicago even suggests that the feeling of extreme loneliness increases the risk of premature death by 14 percent. Culturally the notion of having and holding friends is passed on to us from early childhood: “We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet. Even longer,’ Pooh answered.”― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh Despite the benefits, however, friendships are complicated and at times problematic. The key to avoid problems in friendships is to begin with you, the only person you can ever really know or control and to use mentalization. Mentalization • Psychologists describe mentalization as our reflective function—our capacity to reflect on our own feelings, needs, and expectations, etc., as well as our ability to consider other people has having their own separate set of feelings, needs, and expectations, etc. • It is the recognition that your best friend may love you but actually feel differently about the party, the movie or the amount of time you spend together. Five Potential Friendship Problems You Can Avoid Consider how your capacity to self-reflect and see yourself and your friends from different perspectives can help you avoid the following: Tired of It All: • If you often feel that being with your friend or friends has become more work than it is worth, the first place to look may be your own authenticity. Are you being who you really are or are you always working at being the person you THINK your friends want you to be? • As good a chameleon as you may be, eventually it becomes too much work. If you never get to be your true self, you will never be with...

The Majesty of the Moment, an excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment Oct16

The Majesty of the Moment, an excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment...

The Majesty of the Moment an excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment by Ariel & Shya Kane In early September 2004, our first day offshore in Venezuela, Shya caught and released his very first white marlin using a fly rod. Photo ops abounded at this exciting acrobatic, dancing, leaping event. Earlier that day, the ocean was calm, calm, calm. Very unusual for that particular place, so we were told. But as we came into port at the end of our offshore adventure, we found out that the marina would be closed the following day. They were anticipating hurricane Ivan (the terrible), which was predicted to come closer to Venezuela than any hurricane ever had. Due to where the country is located, big cyclones usually scoot by and leave the coastline unmolested. Although the storm was happening to the east and north of us, there was the expectation of big swells rolling in from the sea. On a walk around the marina, we found that the general consensus among the staff and crews of the docked boats was that closing the marina was a colossal over-reaction. Chances were, they said, that this would be another beautiful day. After a meal of fresh fish and a glass of wine we retired, not knowing what to expect in the morning. We awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of rain pounding on the roof, the deluge of a tropical storm. By morning the rain had stopped, but when we stepped out of our door and strolled to the boats, we could feel the adrenaline. People there were still rocking and reeling from the trauma of December 1999, when after 16 days of nonstop rain, the mountains along 65 miles of coast...

Are You Contemplating Divorce?...

Hi there, If you are reading this letter, most likely you are contemplating a divorce. I can understand how scary this feels and have been in your shoes. My life was forever changed in September 2008. At the time, I was married with 2 beautiful daughters and preparing for my youngest daughter’s Christening when my mom told me she was feeling very sick and a recent ultrasound confirmed she had a large mass in her abdomen. As I looked at her, I could see the fear welling up in her eyes. It was at that moment I knew what she was thinking and I was thinking it too. A few weeks later, that fear was confirmed with her ovarian cancer diagnosis at age 58. My mom fought cancer courageously with such grace and dignity for 5 years. In May of 2013, I held her hand as she left this world and all the pain and suffering cancer had evoked. I’ll always remember the peaceful veil that warmed her face in that moment she passed away. This image will forever comfort me and for that I am so appreciative. The grief I felt that day was so intense. I remember thinking it would be with me forever. At the time of my mom’s passing, I had 3 young girls to take care of and I could not let this huge loss be my breaking point. My girls needed me. I had to be brave. I had to be courageous despite feeling like I was crumbling into a pile of sand. The journey was rocky but moment by moment life went on. For years, my marriage had been contentious. In January 2014 and after 10 years being married, I realized that all that we invested was...

Do You Want To Unlock Your Unlimited Potential?...

Imagine… A situation arises that strikes a chord in you. It pushes an unconscious button from long ago of a person who you believed took advantage of you; or maybe that time you feel you failed at something important. Instead of reacting to that button, you consciously choose to understand it, and use it to help you reach success. You actually embrace this challenge and all others that follow as an opportunity, and use your newfound wisdom to succeed in ways you never have before. You have total confidence in who you are, so much so, that any situation or challenge that arises is relatively easy to navigate through because you know, without hesitation or doubt, the guiding principles and beliefs that you’ve consciously chosen to guide your behaviors and actions to lead you to success. So, if this were true, what would it do for your life? How would your life be different if you consciously responded, instead of automatically reacted, to everything that came your way? What would be the biggest challenge you’d want to tackle next because you knew you couldn’t fail? And, what impact would this have on your relationships, your stress level, or your overall enjoyment of this game we call life? That’s what the Law of Being is all about – consciously creating your world so that it responds to you. You are the cause of your life’s experience. This program guides you through a powerful process of positive abundance, where you can create more happiness, better health, more wisdom, and greater financial wealth, and… all without effort! Souls on their way to our planet earth. Spiritual support through pregnancy & childbirth Oct12

Souls on their way to our planet earth. Spiritual support through pregnancy & childbirth...

Oct 12, 2015 on VOICE AMERICA WOMEN 2:00 pm PST / Regarding pregnancy and child birth there is already a plethora of publications to choose from, covering all the stages and offering education and insight. To this very day, though, one crucial subject remains largely untouched, consciously so or not: Spirituality. Let’s be honest here – hardly anybody talks about it. In proportion to the significance it carries for the well-being of the future mother and her yet to be born child, as a society, we don’t give this theme the attention it deserves. The need to bring spirituality into this rather unexplored corner of life is intensifying. This is a simply so, because the changes and transformation that mankind has been undergoing for quite a while now, are revving up. So, the issue is not “which faith” and “which religion”, but spiritual knowledge that reaches deep into the areas covering pregnancy and child birth and in this way, complements what orthodox medicine and its holistic counterpart are already bringing to the table. Now we truly have the chance to leave our mark on both mother and child at such a hugely important time of imprinting....

Wicked Thoughts Oct12

Wicked Thoughts

We still hear a lot about how it is that we should control our thoughts so that we can get what we want.  There are memes on social media sites every day about this idea.  We are constantly being advised to watch what we are thinking, because the Universe is listening and responding to our thoughts as if they were direct orders for the Universe to follow.  But these wicked thoughts, called by most “negative thoughts” do not have the power to manipulate the Universe—surely we know that the Universe is way more intelligent than that!  So what is true? What is the truth about our thoughts and their impact on the Universe?  If you have been trying to get your thoughts to behave themselves and stop being so wicked that they betray you by making the Universe work against you, this show is for you.  Don’t miss it. Tune in 10/14/2015 @ 1pm PST for this special episode of Authentic Living. Or Listen On Demand...

Your Hero’s Journey to Self-Discovery...

The time has finally come!!! My radio show, Intentional Living, will air Monday, October 12th LIVE at 10 AM EST on VoiceAmerica’s Empowerment Channel. I hope you can listen in. I will be taking live callers and the topic will be Your Hero’s Journey to Self-Discovery. If you cannot listen live, a recording will be available. More details are below for the October 12th episode: Joseph Campbell said that “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” This is the holy grail, the elixir of life, the great bliss we are all seeking – the ability to simply be who we are, no matter whom we’re with or what storm we may be weathering. But this privilege comes at a cost, and one that some of us are unwilling to pay. It comes at the cost of comfort, of security and, sometimes, even of the approval and understanding of those whom we love and care for deeply. In other words, the privilege of being who we are requires that we go on a hero’s journey to discover who we are, and then become willing to embody, express and stand for who we are, no matter what. In this show, I will be talking with a dear friend and business colleague, Lorna Johnson, who has been through her own powerful hero’s journey (she likes to call it a heroine’s journey) of massive personal and business transformation, which included a very long, very dark night of the soul. I will also be sharing my own journey of awakening, and together we will explore the deep spiritual truths that underlie anyone’s path to self-knowledge and to fully embodying what it means to live with intention. There will be laughter, and there may even be tears,...

Water Wise Dreams

By Cynthia Brian “If something you are doing is not working, doing more of it won’t work any better.” Spring, summer, and fall have always been my most favorite seasons because I thrive in the sunshine, relish the warmth, and indulge my senses in the lavish, lush beauty of the landscapes of California. This year has been an exception to my predilection as my garden is straining to survive in this thirsty environment. As I was writing this column, the skies sprinkled droplets of rain and I was so excited I stood outside with my face to the darkened heavens blissfully grateful for this tiny bit of moisture. Water, our most valuable resource, is becoming increasing precious as our climate changes. The way we have been functioning in our gardens isn’t working any longer. I was privileged to be a speaker at the recent National Gardening Symposium held in the horticultural wonderland of Pasadena where the temperatures exceeded 100 degrees on a daily basis. It was hot, hotter, and hottest as the thermometer hit 107.  Although considered a Mediterranean climate, it felt more Saharan. Attendees hailed from all around the United States, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, as well as a few other countries with the most discussed topic being H20. Trees were at the top of the list of plantings that must be saved. The world is watching California as we struggle to find a path to water conservation. On a behind-the-scenes tour of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, I learned about an age-old technique used in Eastern Europe called “hugelkultur”. Translated from German, it means “mound culture”, because the practice involves salvaging limbs, branches, and debris to make raised beds that will improve draining and grow gardens without irrigation or fertilization....
