Express Yourself Teens Talk about Depression and Anxiety
with the Express Yourself! STAR On-Air Team
Produced by Cynthia Brian
Over 350 million people suffer from depression worldwide. According to the World Mental Health Survey conducted in 17 countries, â1 in 20 people have reported episode of depression in the previous year.â Depression leads to mental deterioration, and, at its worst, can cause individuals to commit suicide, which result in an estimated 1 million deaths every year. Our teen reporters and hosts share information, tips, and more that help us recognize depression and reduce our stress. Hosts Youngjoo Ahn and Katelyn Darrow lead the discussions with Global Youth Reporter, Ryan Sim tells us to reach out for help. #Hashtag reporter, Alex Lee, believes that social networking leads to increased depression and encourages listeners to distance themselves from technology more often. Youngjooâs Artsy Gift provides activities, and depression proof kits to cheer us up. Special guest is the 19 year old You Tube rising star, J
oshelyn Smith, who writes songs on her guitar and piano and posts about life, beauty, fitness & wellness, motivation, and anything that tickles her fancy.
Join us at the 15th Annual Pear Festival to meet our Reporters and Writers, Sept. 28, 10am-4pm PT. Fun activities for the family and autographed books.
