From Abuse to Success Feb04

From Abuse to Success...

I met Nancy over 11 years ago when we were both members of a unique group at the Family Place in Dallas, TX. What made us different is that we didn’t fit the societal stereotype of abused women. We were white with prominent and financially successful spouses. We were thought to be privileged, and no one entertained the possibility that abuse was the defining word for our marriages. Our group was even in a documentary that aired on the Lifetime Channel. Although we no longer see each other weekly, Nancy is one of those people who seem to be in my energy field. Every few years we wind up in the same place at the same time from restaurants to clothing stores to the Dallas Yoga Center. We even have carved out careers helping others to improve their lives as best-selling authors, radio show hosts and counseling with myself as a life coach and Nancy as a health counselor. None of this was predictable given the trauma we experienced. Join us Thursday to hear how Nancy left abuse and healed! Tune in every Thursday 8am PST to Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the...

Transforming Dreams into Education for the Future! by Luis Vicente Garcia...

When you visit StarShine Academy in one of the hardest hit areas in Phoenix, AZ you immediately understand that it has been a process to transform the single most important element for our future: our children through education! A K-12 school focused on the principles and values that kids and children need to learn for today’s world which of course will include how they dedicate their lives for something meaningful. When I met Trish McCarthy over three years ago she talked so passionately about the kids and teenagers they were teaching at StarShine that when I had the opportunity I went for a visit (walls are painted in Disney ® Blue!) and I had the incredible chance to talk to the seniors and juniors who amazingly were from different countries and were not going through the best of times; but that all changed in StarShine. In Trish’s words: “Our non-profit charter school prototype, StarShine Academy, has given us a live, testing model for cutting-edge practices, tools, educational methodologies and technologies.” Since then, Trish and so many incredible individuals have started new and incredible ideas and initiatives to promote further education. Listen to the interview with Trish and learn about the X-Prize to end illiteracy and the Vatican document on Education Sustainability. They are all working together to design the curriculum for the new way of teaching for the future. About Trish McCarty: Trish McCarty believes sustainability is determined by what we teach children as humane leaders.  She is a former banker and international consultant, entrepreneur, who formed Education Resources as a government contracting firm in 1999. In 2002 she opened a K-12 charter school, StarShine Academy as a real-time pilot model for what all children deserve to learn about success with academics. Her inspirational books...

Zika virus – the NEXT scare, Be NOT afraid! by Nicholas St Jon...

Zika virus is the “new” threat. BTW, they are NEVER gonna stop coming, there will always be something new and threatening, so learn what YOU can do, don’t wait for someone else to protect you. Quit waiting for someone else to find the solution to the next epidemic or pandemic. I’d love for the CDC to do something, but they have already proven with West Nile and Ebola that they are simply not capable of doing hardly anything. There’s NOT going to be a vaccine for Zika, after 14 years, almost 1,000 deaths and thousands maimed from WNV, still no vaccine nor is there likely to be one. All of the “authorities” websites say the exact same thing, there is NO treatment, there is NO cure. That’s reassuring!?! They can simply duplicate those paragraphs when they create the Zika pages because its the same. Its YOUR health, take charge for there is something you CAN do against ALL viral and bacterial infections like Zika and West Nile. Occam’s razor says that all things being equal, the best solution to a problem is usually the easiest and simplest. What is that solution? Its simple, do the opposite of what the “authorities” say makes you vulnerable to these infections in the first place, you’re vulnerable and reduce your chances of recovery if you have a weak or weakened immune system. The overly obvious answer would then be to “strengthen” your immune system, but they really don’t give you much help there. So fasten your seat belts, here it is, the simplest, easiest, almost unbelievably powerful, most researched nutrient ever but the very foundation of the entire Immune System, fortify your white blood cells with plenty of Sodium Ascorbate. That’s it. Sodium Ascorbate in significant amounts, like...

Roses by Any Other Name…...

Digging Deep-Gardening with Cynthia Brian “I don’t know whether nice people tend to grow roses or growing roses makes people nice.”   Roland A. Browne Roses are the most popular bloomers in the world with a long and colorful history as symbols of love, war, beauty, friendship, and politics. According to fossil evidence, the majestic rose is older than humankind, dating to over thirty five million years ago. The cultivation of garden roses most likely began in China over five thousand years ago. Throughout the Northern Hemisphere, the genus Rosa includes one hundred and fifty species.  Roses were used for celebrations, perfume, medicine, fashion, and décor. The Persians considered the rose a representation of love, the Romans planted extensive public rose gardens, the Greeks wrote about roses, and pagan goddesses were associated with this fragrant flower. During the fifteenth century, “The War of the Roses” saw the House of York with its white rose fighting against the red rose House of Lancaster for control of England. In France, Napoleon’s wife Josephine planted an extensive rose collection at Chateau de Maimason which is where the famed illustrator, Pierre Joseph Redoute completed what is considered one of the finest records of botanical illustration with his watercolor collection, “Les Rose”. Contrary to popular belief, roses are extremely easy to grow with relatively low maintenance and rewards that far outweigh any efforts on their behalf.  This is the time of year when heavy pruning is in order as well as planting bare root specimens. Let’s look at the different kinds of roses and how to care for them. Floribunda These versatile sun-loving shrubs have the most blossoms of the hybrid teas setting clusters of three to fifteen blossoms per stem. Hybrid Tea Ideal for cutting, these tall,  striking...

Emotional Abuse: How to Recognize It and Heal by Paula Joyce Jan27

Emotional Abuse: How to Recognize It and Heal by Paula Joyce...

Are you sick and tired? Emotional abuse is what I call “The Silent Killer.” Because most people do not know how to recognize it or even that it exists, it gets misdiagnosed by trained professionals and by the abused. The abuser slowly saps your energy and your health until you are barely able to function while they seem to have an unlimited source of energy. By the end of my 36-year marriage, I was literally spending 1/2 of every week too tired to do anything. When I wasn’t dealing with colds or congestion, I would spend days rebuilding my energy in order to dance. If I didn’t have such a strong love of dance, I’m not sure what would have happened to me. Although I didn’t know it at the time, Argentine Tango became a powerful way for me to heal. I used it to overcome fear, discover my own talents and strength and reconnect with parts of my Self that I had lost while living with abuse. Please join us Thursday to learn how to recognize emotional abuse, rediscover your true Self and heal. Tune in every Thursday at 8am PST to Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the...

How Having It All is a myth For Entrepreneurs Jan27

How Having It All is a myth For Entrepreneurs...

Most of us are familiar with the phrase, “You can have it all.” Some believe this is an accurate possibility; however, having it all creates specific challenge for entrepreneurs. My guest on The Business Edge is Deborah Gregory who was Senior Attorney for the IRS’ Office of Chief Counsel for more than 12 years and then made the leap to being an entrepreneur as co-founder of Gregory Law Group. She shares the joys and challenges of starting a business locally and now taking it regionally and even nationally. She tells how she balances her role as business owner along with her role as a wife and mother to two boys. Listen and learn: why purpose was behind Deborah’s decision to leave a successful career and start a business; how she prepared to make this transition and the biggest thing she had to learn – being a marketer; the top challenges of scaling a business: staffing up, putting in systems, maintaining quality control; the many ways she’s handling the work-life balance challenges in her business and with her family; and why “putting on blinders” was a key lesson she learned in her entrepreneurial journey. Tune in Every Friday at noon PST to The Business Edge with Marcia Zidle, The Smart Moves...

The Gift of Laughter Jan26

The Gift of Laughter

Every week, Express Yourself!™ will bring you a stimulating program based on a chapter from our award winning book Be the Star You Are!® for Teens. Opportunities for laughter are everywhere, in everything, everyday. Laughing is a healing drug with no side effects. And it’s free!   Hosts Zahra Hasanian and Brigitte Jia bring laughter to the show with a reading from the chapter The Gift of Laughter by Jill Byington from the book, Be the Star You Are!® for Teens. Zahra conveys her Hope Heals segment with a conversation on how genuine laughter can help hopelessness. Numerous medical studies indicate that the deep breaths we take and the chemicals our body releases when we laugh hasten healing and reinforce the body’s immunity. In Art Attack, Brigitte shows how Manga artists use a variety of different techniques to make people laugh through their drawings. Asya Gonzalez joins the discussion with her view that spreading laughter is the same thing as spreading kindness, you are giving someone an experience that gives them joy. Make time to laugh every day. Humor is food for the soul. You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing. Anti-vaxers are trying to kill us all Jan26

Anti-vaxers are trying to kill us all...

When it comes to those that oppose mandatory vaccinations, you’ll only get half the truth on one side of the argument. Here you’ll find the other side of the untold story. A local TV news show did a couple of segments on the anti-vaxer debate, providing interviews with a family that can’t have their children vaccinated for Medical reasons and another interview with a family that doesn’t get their children vaccinated for Religious or Personal reasons.  Both made good arguments and stated well their fears associated with their concerns. In the end, you felt sorry for the “Medical” exempted family because they had NO choice but to be vulnerable to what they believe to be seriously threatening diseases.  As for the family that voluntarily choose to withhold vaccinating, I went away with the thought that they are doing this for selfish, unwarranted, unloving toward others and their own children reasons.  The “anti-vaxer” family were “the bad guys”. One of the wisest men to have ever lived said, one side of the story seems right until you hear the other side of the story.  The famed Paul Harvey had “…the rest of the story”. In this article, I’m going to attempt to put this in a proper perspective, something the TV show DIDN’T do. So I went to the news channels website to obtain the “numbers” of students in all the USD 259 public school district that broke down the numbers of children not vaccinated for both reasons. USD 259 has 51,330 students grades 1-12. A total of just 444 students not vaccinated for a percentage of just 0.86%. The ratio for medical vs religious exemptions both here in Wichita, KS and nationwide is 40:60, that’s 178 medically exempt to 266 religiously exempted. Elementary or...

Begin with the End In Mind – Updated Leadership Vision by Maureen Metcalf Jan22

Begin with the End In Mind – Updated Leadership Vision by Maureen Metcalf...

Welcome to 2016! To begin your year, I recommend revisiting (or creating) your vision. As part of my December routine (birthday and New Year’s both in the same month), I revisit and update my personal vision over the New Year’s break. My vision and values serve as an important foundation for who I am and how I live my life. As the CEO of my company and also as a leadership faculty member, it is important for me to live what I teach. This is one of the core practices. I also revisit it regularly to ensure I am living what I say. Simply put your vision and aspirations help you decide where best to invest your time and energy. Clarifying them helps you define a manner of contributing to the world that authentically honors who you are. Your vision and aspirations further help you clarify what you want to accomplish over time. For those of you who resist this process, it is true that you will not spend an hour over the weekend and suddenly determine your life purpose. It is true, however, that capturing your general direction is a great start and you can refine it over time. A colleague and friend, Mike Sayre, CEO of NexDefense, talks about how he used his personal vision to select his current role. He has been a strong proponent of the importance of knowing and living your personal vision and sharing it with others so they know what to expect of you. You can listen to Mike talk about his vision as well as his company in a Voice America Interview. He is a great example of a leader who follows his vision as the foundation for his choices. The following exercise is drawn from...

2016 is a Year of Great Potential: Here’s How to Make the Most of It...

What follows is extremely valuable information on how we can make 2016 a spectacular year for ourselves and at the same time decrease destructive influences in the world.  If enough of us do this, we can even help to create world peace. All we have to do is spend a few minutes each day doing the exercises described below. Invite others to do this to add even more positive energy to the world. The more of us who do this, the better it is for all of us. Psychic Dawon Washington, my teacher, mentor and colleague, emphasizes that 2016 is a year of choice and of great potential. The energies for this year are opening doors for us to create what we want, but we have to do our part to make that happen. The choice is to give into fear and close doors of opportunity or add to the positive energy and help to create a world of joy, peace and light. We truly are co-creators, and more than ever, our positive or negative attitudes, words, thoughts and deeds will influence our own lives and the world. The energy we create of fear or love will spread into the world. Through positivity we can help create calm and peace within the weather systems and even diminish the level of violence in the world. As we accept and love ourselves, knowing that we deserve love, peace healing and abundance, we automatically let go of violence, fear and judgment of others. We can even influence the economy. Let’s commit to planting the seeds of positivity, growing them and manifesting them within ourselves and in the world. If this idea that world peace starts with peace within ourselves seems hard to understand, I want to remind...

Every Company Must Be Innovative: Is Yours? Jan15

Every Company Must Be Innovative: Is Yours?...

According to Steve Jobs, “Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people, how you’re led, and how much you get it.” Dr Yoram Solomon, founder of Large Scale Creativity, will tell us how to unlock innovation on the individual and organizational level on this week’s podcast of The Business Edge He discusses how to create an environment for creativity and innovation that costs little and leads to big results. His firm belief, like Steve Jobs, is that everyone has good ideas to increase productivity and profitability; the challenge is to tap into the brainpower of your people and turn their ideas into reality. Listen and learn the answers to these questions: Is creativity the same as innovation or are they different? Why are start-ups more innovative than mature companies? What role does culture play in fostering or restricting innovation? How does trust affect innovation? How does innovation affect trust?  Who’s responsible for coming up with and implementing great ideas? Is it management’s fault for not accepting great ideas or is it something...

Houseplant Happiness

Digging Deep-Gardening with Cynthia Brian “I couldn’t wait for success ― so I went ahead without it.”  ~ Jonathan Winters It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring! And, oh, how happy we are all! As those of you who have been reading this decade old column know, I am not usually a fan of winter because I adore basking in the sunlight of gardening bliss. But this January I am singing in the rain because raindrops keep falling on my head.  El Nino translated means our natural surroundings are finally receiving a well deserved soaking. Woohoo! Since it’s wet and cold outside, we’ll bring the healthy spirit of the outdoors in with beautiful houseplants. Many plants that we relish as indoor specimens grow wild in the tropics or warmer climates south of the equator. To start the year out with wellness as a resolution, we can provide physical and psychological benefits to our families by introducing the bold shapes, exotic foliage, and cool colors of houseplants. Inside plants clean the air absorbing more than 87% of volatile organic compounds, including formaldehyde, benzene, and xylene from the air we breathe. VOCS come from  newer, more energy-efficient buildings as well as household cleaners, carpeting off-gasses, drapes, furniture, and personal care products including hair spray and nail polish. The Environmental Protection Agency reveals that indoor pollution can be five to ten times greater than the outdoors. Houseplants to the rescue! Contrary to what many people believe, houseplants are extremely easy to grow, maintain, and enjoy with just a little TLC-food, water, sunlight, and singing, if you so desire. Different plants require various amounts of each. Choose the right plant for your chosen location then allow the healthy plant to take care of itself. Some of...

Finding the Balance Point, An Excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment Jan15

Finding the Balance Point, An Excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment...

Finding the Balance Point An Excerpt from Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment by Ariel & Shya Kane Most people aim to live in a way that produces a sense of well-being, satisfaction and accomplishment. We are all interested in being productive and achieving the goals that are consistent with our values. However, the two of us have often observed that in the desire to attain their goals, people often lose sight of what is happening in their lives…in each moment. People are driven to accomplish what they think will produce happiness, success and well-being and miss all that life has to offer when you are Being Here. We are not suggesting that you should not have goals. It is simply that focusing on future goals will rob you of the richness of this moment. Here is an example: Since we are both avid fly fishers, we took a short vacation after one of our winter seminars in Costa Rica, where we set out to catch large Pacific sailfish on fly rods. There we hired Captain Bobby, his boat and mate to take us off the Costa Rican coast in the blue Pacific in search of these majestic creatures. Each year, for the previous four years, we had fished with Captain Bobby. When we first met him, he was working for a fishing lodge as one of their premier guides. We seemed to get along well together, so we continued to book trips with him after he went into business for himself. It was just Bobby, his mate and the two of us, on a 26-foot boat, heading off shore for an adventure near Golfito, Costa Rica. There is something about the intensity and immediacy of life at sea that fascinates and feeds...

High Performing Teams Jan15

High Performing Teams...

How do you build high performing teams?  How do you build trust?  How can you become corporate athletes? This is about what it takes to build teams and lead them in today’s business world.  This isn’t about authority, it is about influence.  This is about the Law of Solid Ground.  And understanding that trust is something you have to earn as a leader.  And knowing when to train, perform, celebrate and rest to be a corporate athlete.  Because this is a marathon not a sprint.  And the 4 stages of team performance: form, storm, norm and perform.  And knowing what stage you are in and how to get to the next one. Building trust is step one.  According to John C Maxwell’s book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”, trust is the foundation of leadership.  He talks about the Law of Solid Ground. And that to build trust a leader must exemplify the qualities of:  competence, connection and character.  People will forgive occasional mistakes based on ability, especially if they see that you are still growing as a leader.  However you need to own up to it and make sure it doesn’t happen again. How do you build trust in an organization?  How do you know you are on Solid Ground? Go through “The Trust Check List” and evaluate your ability to adhere  to certain behaviors.  These behaviors if followed consistently, can help to build trust.  And here they are: 1. Keep promises and honor commitments? 2. Acknowledge and apologize for your mistakes? 3. Remain loyal to the absent? 4. Share information, both positive and negative, with the people who need it? 5. Involve others in decisions that affect them? 6. Give credit where credit is due? 7. Communicate consistently, regardless of the situation...

Ideas on Productivity! Jan13

Ideas on Productivity!...

Productivity is a key topic in today’s business world. It mixes what you do with how you do it and why you do it. Doing it right is not enough. You also need to do it effectively and efficiently. Do you know how do you, your team and your company use your resources? The main resources we all have are time, people and funds. In other words we need to use them wisely. Productivity has been defined as “a measure of the efficiency of a person, machine, factory, system, etc., in converting inputs into useful outputs.” So it is actually the best and most efficient use of the resources we have in order to obtain a better and bigger output. Yes of products, services, ideas, projects and all that you and your company do. And of course they all relate to our main theme: PERFORMANCE. Join us on this interesting episode as we talk on the very important subject of...

Leadership Endeavor: Working for Good...

Jeff Klein, with his brilliant mind and generous heart, always knew the world was poised for good. He believed that business was our greatest lever and set out to elevate humanity through the Conscious Capitalism movement, teaching, inspiring, and helping organizations achieve “Working For Good.” An avid surfer, fit and healthy, loving life, and positive about the future, he seemed destined for a very long life. But it was not to be. A friend said Jeff made an “elegant exit” dying in his sleep in 2014. We all miss him. He made a difference in the lives of many and in the efforts to do well by doing good.  So, it seems appropriate to begin 2016 hearing his voice gently nudging us all to believe we can do well by doing good. So, dear Jeff, thank you. We are grateful to have shared laughter and deep thinking with you. We are grateful that you were a courageous leader, willing to stand in your truth in the world. Your work goes on, Jeff Klein…your legacy lives. Tune in Live to Leading Conversations every Friday at 10am...

Depression: The Truth and a Cure Jan12

Depression: The Truth and a Cure...

Most of us accept depression as a fact of life. In 2011, one-fourth of the U.S. population was on anti-depressants. I’m certain that the number is much higher now, but I couldn’t find current statistics. The pharmaceutical industry is doing great, but people aren’t. Most psychiatrists won’t even treat people with anything but a prescription. It’s easier and more lucrative to just medicate. The problem is, people aren’t getting better. Worse, they believe that their biochemistry has caused the problem, which prevents them from seeking the help they need to actually heal their depression and their lives. Current studies do not prove cause and effect; they only show correlation. Unless we do biochemical analyses on newborns and follow them throughout life, we cannot prove which came first, the depression or the imbalance. To sentence someone to a life of anti-depressants, keeps them in the illusion that they are happy. Please join us Thursday to hear the truth about depression and a cure. You can also listen to ‘Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the Spirit‘ live every Thursday at 8am PST or On Demand...

Analogy of a Flu Shot...

The Anatomy of a Flu Shot With signs on every corner encouraging you to get THIS season’s flu shot, combined with the media bombardment to try and shame or scare us into getting one for the “herd” immunity, I thought now might be a good time to cover “The Flu Shot”. I’m NOT here to tell you whether to get “the shot” or not, but what I believe every person needs is valid and truthful information with which they can make an informed decision. Let’s start with the herd immunity concept.  There are 320 million Americans, just 172 million flu shot doses with a hoped for rate of at least 80% inoculation.  80% of 172 million is 138 million, at an “efficacy” rate (which I’ll explain later) of their typical 60%-70%, giving them the benefit of the doubt, brings our herd immunity down to 97 million with any level of immunity from this season’s flu strains.  That means that just 1/3 of the people around you will have any level of immunization from the guessed at strains of this season’s flu.  Leaving over 200 million of us “susceptible” to this season’s flu. Wow! Even according to “their” own formula, it is short 9 million people to qualify for herd immunity if this season’s flu is at the bottom of the contagious scale. Next we’ll look at the “ingredients” of a flu shot.  It will of course contain a number of H3N2 Influenza strains and H1N1 Swine strains typically identified by “A” or “B” types and regions or states previously found predominant in.  These can be a “portion” of the virus such as the Hemagglutinin (the “H” part of the virus), an inactivated virus that is somehow kept from replicating, and the “dead” virus which is...

In Hope Heals, Zahra restores our trust and faith in humanity as she shares her experiences of kindness as courageous acts. Courtney brings us a recap of a best selling novel in her Book It segment revealing a character lacking kindness.  We may not remember what people say to us in life. We will remember what they did to us and how they made us feel. Kindness is a virtue that manifests from our deepest being. It is who we are and what we become. Ask yourself what you can do to be kind today.  Create peace on the planet through kindness and empathy. Do you dare to care? “You become kind by being kind. Kindness is a gift to yourself.” Cynthia Brian BIO: Katie Choo is a sophomore at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California. Leadership – what it takes to lead today Jan03

Leadership – what it takes to lead today...

Is leadership about authority or influence?  Does the real leader hold the position or the power?  Are they running the meeting or leading the people?  How can you make sure you are truly leading?  Follow the laws of leadership and you can’t go wrong. There are a lot of books out there that talk about leadership but the one that I have gone back to time and again is “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”  by John C. Maxwell.  This book was recommended to me by a work colleague and he said it is the best book you’ll ever read on leadership because it covers everything.  I thought really 21 laws are you kidding me isn’t there just a top 5 list that I can look at and be done with it all – and he said no – Leadership is not easy and as the world around us becomes more complicated so do the types of skills, values and behaviors that you need to be able to tap into to truly lead.  I tap into the laws in this book all of the time depending on the situation and it has been a great resource. Here are the 4 that I tap into in different situations: The Law of Influence – leading through influence versus authority – think Princess Diana versus Prince Charles.  Using authority may be faster but it does not have staying power.  True leadership cannot be assigned or appointed it must be earned.  A title can buy you time to either increase your level of influence with others or erase it…practicing the law of influence is critical to being a good leader today. The Law of Navigation – Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart...

A Paradigm Shift: True Healing Dec21

A Paradigm Shift: True Healing...

Most of us believe that disease is caused by observable data, like multiplying cells or germs or genetic predisposition. We assume that if you treat the specific problem in the body, you can cure the disease. The problem with this way of understanding illness is that it doesn’t get to the root cause of the problem. Even if you cure the immediate disease, unless you eliminate the cause, the same disease or another one will emerge. New models of the cause of disease are emerging which point to the connection between our thoughts and emotions and mental and physical illness. If you want to eliminate the cause and not just the symptoms, you must work with the mind, the emotions, spiritual techniques and love in addition to the physical body. This requires a huge paradigm shift in an age when anything that is not Western Medicine is demeaned as being Alternative. If we want true health and healing, this paradigm shift is essential. Please join us December 24th to learn more about deep healing. Tune in every Thursday at 8am PST to Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the...

Digital Digging

By Cynthia Brian “With our thoughts, we make the world.” ~ Buddha My first gardening calendar was published in the year 1993. I had worked with a renown photographer for over eighteen months shooting fabulous photos from my garden throughout the seasons, taking copious notes of what to do and when to do it, traveling to numerous zones to note the monthly cycles.  I wrote my copy on an Apple desktop, the photographs were transparencies, and the finished product was a beautiful, printed, shrink-wrapped gift of beautiful flowers with monthly tips worth saving. Over the years, people have shown me the tablemats, collages, and other creative things that were made with that calendar. Since the back up to all of my work was on floppy disks, I no longer have access to my unedited insights. Thankfully, I have the photos and the published calendar as a souvenir of my efforts.  This loss of my creative writings caused me to ponder the digital mania that has descended upon humanity in our yearning to eliminate paper archiving. We tend to keep everything on our computers, designating Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest as our memory banks. My fear is that our history will be relegated to oral rememberings as technology rapidly changes. Since computers became a household necessity, we’ve stored our data on floppies, CD’s, DVD’s, flash drives, portable hard drives, and now the cloud, but will future generations be ever able to access any of this as equipment evolves and changes? My iphoto folder has now surpassed 20,000 jpegs. Digital photos from 2009 and earlier that were not printed are no longer accessible since I’ve upgraded computers multiple times and those earlier back up disks are not compatible. Earlier this year, I made a book of my...

Healing Abuse in the LGBT Community Dec16

Healing Abuse in the LGBT Community...

We all grow up with fears, feelings of not being good enough and insecurities. Now add being told by your family, society and your religion that there is something innately wrong with you, that you need to be fixed, that there is no room in heaven for you and top if off with the belief that God does not love you. How do you have any good feelings about yourself? How do you make it through the day? This is the experience of most people who grew up lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender. Yes, things are changing, but a lot of damage has already been done through the abuse experienced at the hands of family, society and religion. This abuse seems normal to many and opens the door to abuse within their intimate relationships. If you don’t feel you deserve anything better, it is hard to leave abuse. In fact, you might even have the false belief that no one else could ever love you and that you’re lucky to have anyone at all. Please join us Thursday for Healing Abuse in the LGBT Community. The Silver Linings in Anger and Grief Dec15

The Silver Linings in Anger and Grief...

Today’s silver lining story is about anger. Some of you may be puzzled by that statement. I urge you to stay with me and listen closely. Those of you who have been listening on a regular basis know that I’ve been working on healing some indigestion that goes away and then re-emerges as I reach deeper levels of healing. Just before my acupuncture session on Tuesday, I got a reminder call about a dental appointment, which was an hour earlier than I had written down. This triggered some deep anger because the appointment was for a redo on a crown. Although there was no additional charge to me, it did cost me time, energy and emotional strain when my reserves were low. The synchronicity of the reminder call was the first silver lining because it led me to ask my acupuncturist if the indigestion was related to anger. His response was a strong yes. Previously he had said that it was caused by childhood stress, but anger was a lot more specific. Having grown up with abuse, I had a lot of suppressed anxiety and anger. As a child, there was no safe way to express those feelings, so I ignored them. I continued this pattern into adulthood. By then I had convinced myself that I was a good person if I kept quiet, forgave others, looked for the good in them and didn’t hurt their feelings. This kind of thinking and behavior was affecting my health. When Dr. Chen inserted his needles, I felt the pain as the needles gave the negative energies of anxiety and anger a way to leave my body. People often ask if acupuncture hurts. The truth is that the pain is already in my body. If it doesn’t...

Replenish Your Soul This Holiday Season...

Three things clog your soul: imbalance, negativity and judgment. As we enter the craziness of this holiday season, I know how imbalance can easily become a driver of stress for all of us. I recently learned that the hours we sleep before midnight are equal to 2 hrs a night after midnight. So, one thing to help you recharge may be to get to bed earlier. Sleep deprivation can certainly make us feel imbalanced. Negativity can creep into our lives in so many ways. On my radio show this week I was explaining how to stop using a negative filter for your life. Have you ever noticed yourself viewing life from a “lack of” perspective? Simply shifting the filter to a more positive one will allow you to feel grateful and replenish your soul. I find a gratitude journal is a great way to do this. Before long, you will be counting your blessings! And now for the big one – Judgment! Start today by simply being aware of all the times you judge someone else…perhaps for the clothes they are wearing, the slow driving as you are late to your appointment or the unfriendly demeanor of the checkout person. Then, think about that person in the crazy clothes and instead acknowledge his willingness to embrace his unique style. And that slow driver, maybe she is simply enjoying the moments of the day because she is old and doesn’t have a whole lifetime to embrace. And that unhappy checkout person, maybe she just lost her dog this am. My point is, who are we to judge? Who granted us the right? And when we stop doing it, we are able to connect and learn that we truly are all the same: human beings just...

Being of Service, An Excerpt from Practical Enlightenment...

Being of Service, an Excerpt from Practical Enlightenment by Ariel & Shya Kane “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.” – Albert Schweitzer Laurie showed up with a spring in her step and a noticeably lighter demeanor. There had been a festival in town and she had taken part. In actuality, she had seen little of the entertainment, nor had she partaken of the rides and activities. Instead, she was “in charge of beans.” The gathering was a community outreach project produced by her church and she had spent the day at the outdoor barbecue serving beans. We could tell that she came away well-fed. There are infinite possibilities for service. In your own community there are bound to be plenty of pre-existing avenues or you can create some of your own. Throughout the world there is a grass roots movement to create Say YES to Your Life! Meetups where people volunteer to lead evenings dedicated to sharing their own experience of Practical Enlightenment, in effect giving it away so that others can have the experience for themselves. The producer of our Internet radio show Being Here has selflessly volunteered her time since 2007, making it possible for millions of people to have a taste of Instantaneous Transformation. Teams of volunteers in our transformational community set up our course rooms and manage supplies in order to support others in discovering what is possible for them. Proof of the Afterlife Dec08

Proof of the Afterlife...

Is there life after death?–an age-old question. Religion asks us to have faith. The more scientifically minded want proof, but what proof would document that which cannot be seen or touched in the earthly realm? For some, there may never be enough proof. When you enter this quest with curiosity and an open mind, however, you just might find the proof that convinces you that the afterlife is real. It can be a preponderance of evidence or it can be one or more powerfully moving personal experiences. Once you begin to see that the afterlife truly does exist and that you can communicate with your loved ones who have passed, your perception of life and everything you thought you knew to be true changes. The loss is still very real, but it can be tempered by the deeper connection that you feel when worldly concerns and interpersonal challenges are gone. What is left is the opportunity to heal and to receive and give unconditional love. Please join us Thursday for Proof of the Afterlife. A Legacy of Love

It is that time of year again…the season that brings joy with the lighting of the tree, the anticipation of Santa, drinking hot chocolate by the fire and for my girls and I, pulling out the box of treasured Christmas ornaments that my mom made us over the years. She has been gone for 2 years now and as we carefully unwrap each ornament she lovingly made we reflect on the memory it brings. It has become one of our most favorite events as we decorate the tree each year. The delicately painted reindeer adorned in silly hats with all our names on it makes us think of the endless rounds of tickling she engaged in just to bring more laughter into our lives. The shells with glitter bring memories of the many walks we shared on the beach collecting shells. The glass balls filled with ribbon represent her style and grace. And, then there are the ones she made while undergoing endless rounds of chemo which remind us of her bravery and courage as she fought cancer with such strength and determination. My girls are 9, 7 and 6 and even at their young age, they understand what a legacy means and they have such fond memories of their grandmother who is now their guardian angel. This yearly occurrence enables her memory to stay alive as if she were sitting across the table from us engaged in a conversation listening to our every word. As we take time away from our busy lives and come together engaged in a Christmas tradition we are able to reflect on the beautiful memories she created and the selfless love she gave us all. I know many of you are missing a loved one also this holiday...

Cynthia Brian’s Garden Guide for December...

By Cynthia Brian “I look upon the pleasure we take in a garden as one of the most innocent delights in human life.” Cicero It is hard to believe that the holidays are already here. Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was taking down Christmas decorations? What would the holidays be without the high voltage displays of thousands of twinkling lights illuminating our landscapes? We drive around neighborhoods “oohing” and “aahing” at the inflatable snowmen waving to us, Santa’s sleigh on the rooftops tethered to his blinking reindeer, and flickering candy canes hanging from tree branches. My mom’s house is lit up like Disneyland to make sure that Santa can find his way to our ranch. My last few columns have initiated numerous emails and comments. It appears that gardeners are very interested in hugelkultur as well as growing grass that is not water thirsty. Regarding the hugels, from Washington I received this very astute email: “I just read your gardening guide and immediately thought about how the trees where we go camping do this naturally.  Frequently, trees have started by growing from a stump or downed tree trunk.  Then, over time, everything mounds up at the base of the new tree.  The spaces underneath provide habitat for a multitude of creatures, and the rotting logs, needles, and leaves are material for insects to do terra-forming.  They combine the organic with rock that continually slides down from the mountains and into the streams and eventually becomes sand, to form rich soil. Another thing all this debris on the ground does is to shade the soil, keeping it cooler and protected from evaporation.  We use rocks in favor of bark or mulch in many places in our yard.  I have thought for years about the...

Shining Your Light Within Brings A Whole New Sense of Gratitude...

Finding your source and living in your light allows your feelings of gratitude to take on a whole new meaning. This Thanksgiving, as I give thanks for all my blessings, I reflect on the peace that I’m able to tap into at any given moment, the passion that makes me feel alive, and living on purpose and fulfilling my dreams and aspirations. I reflect on the masks I allowed to fall to the floor and the renewed energy I feel as I can simply “be” without striving to meet the needs of everyone I meet. I reflect on the sense of wonder and curiosity I have as I embark on new journeys and a renewed sense of compassion for myself and others. I reflect on my ability to turn off the firing of self-limiting beliefs that used to keep me stuck and playing life small. I reflect on my tribe…the most radiant beings who have come into my life and nurture and feed my soul with life-giving energy and unconditional support. Living mindfully has become a way of life for me and for this I’m deeply grateful. My life today mirrors my message; I realize how powerful my beliefs are on my reality and I know that what I think, I will become. I’ve learned that my health is my real wealth and I’ve learned the importance of taking care of me so I can better care for and be of service to others. Laughter has become a staple in my life and I enjoy the little things as much as the big life events. I’ve learned to surrender and go with the flow. My strong faith and trust in the process carries me over the threshold when life is uncertain, and my ability...

Be Limitless: Breaking Down Mind Barriers Dec01

Be Limitless: Breaking Down Mind Barriers...

We all think we understand our mind, but what if we don’t? What if we are much more than we think we are? We’ve all heard the concept that we only use 10% of our brain. But what does that mean? What’s the other 90% and how do we access it? Well, it’s actually the most powerful part of our mind, the part that can help us feel and know that we are always connected to each other, to our limitless self, to the spiritual realm, to details of our past and future, to the wisdom of the ages, and even to creativity. As you understand the full scope of your mind, everything changes. Fears and worries, self-doubt, guilt, blame and shame begin to disappear. They become replaced with hope, compassion, love, improved health, peace and happiness. You will even see your past differently and the silver linings in every experience will become apparent. Listen as we explore new dimensions of our own mind and learn how we are more than we think we are! Tune in every Thursday at 8am PST to Uplift Your Life: Nourishment of the...

The Power of the Christ Consciousness on the Journey of Transformation Dec01

The Power of the Christ Consciousness on the Journey of Transformation...

The Power of Transformation – Pathway to Enlightenment with Brigitte Boyea and St. Germain is a unique radio show series supervised, guided and directed by St. Germain, Master of Transformation, and channeled by Brigitte Boyea. Many current world issues will be addressed. Other divine Masters and Angels as representatives of the Seven Sacred Rays will also be introduced throughout this series to offer their wisdom to the audience. In this seventh episode of their radio show Brigitte and St. Germain will focus on the Power of the Christ Consciousness on the Journey of Transformation at a time where it is so needed to ease the wounds of humanity. The Christ Consciousness is often depicted as a threefold flame; the flame of love, wisdom and power. Having experienced representatives and activations of these three rays in previous episodes, St. Germain will now use the transforming powers of the violet flame to bring all of these aspects into one great whole within you. This will further awaken the “Christed Self” inside of your heart to be expressed out into a world that is in such need of love and support during these times of great change. Near-Death Experience: The Silver Linings...

It took a near-death experience for Stephanie to wake up to her deep connection with the spiritual realm. As we follow her on her journey, we, too, wake up to who we really are. The Power of Forgiveness...

The Power of Forgiveness is an incredibly powerful and self-liberating principle which, when “consciously” applied, allows a sense of tremendous inner peace and overall well-being, and brings a true sense of freedom and unlimited abundance and happiness. Forgiveness involves freeing up and converting the energy once consumed by holding grudges, harboring resentments, and nursing unhealed wounds. Forgiveness is rediscovering the inherent strengths we always had and tapping into our limitless capacity to understand and accept other people and ourselves. Most of us need time to work through pain and loss. It’s easy for us to find reasons for postponing forgiveness. One of these reasons is waiting for the wrongdoers to repent before we forgive them. Yet such a delay causes us to forfeit the peace and happiness that could be ours today. The act of rehashing long-past hurts does not bring happiness. Some people hold grudges for a lifetime, unaware that courageously forgiving those who have wronged us is healthy and therapeutic. You may be in a relationship that has been dead for years. You may be feeling the pain of negative words spoken over your life, or maybe you’ve spoken to someone else and you wish you could take back things that you said. Maybe there are things in your past that you think can’t be forgiven. Or maybe you feel guilt for some past failure or resentment and un-forgiveness toward someone who has wronged you. All of us suffer some injuries from experiences that we cannot understand or explain. We may never know why some things happen in this life. However, we still have power to make a choice to either hold resentment or un-forgiveness against another or empty our hearts of festering resentment or guilt. If you seem to struggle with...

I AM BECAUSE OF YOU

What a powerful statement Deepak shares with us in his 21-Day Meditation Series. I am so grateful to be able to reflect on this with you. WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED. I have always pondered what that truly means and I believe it stems from the fact that we are all united by the goodness that lies within each of us, traits such as kindness towards others, compassion, love, and a need to be accepted. We cannot align with the true self and demonstrate peace, harmony and reconciliation unless we are able to go within and with a quiet heart, recognize the equality among us. We cannot view life with an “us vs. them” mentality. This will only segment us from others. Today, I ask you to open your awareness to see how alike you are with others. Reach out to others with a smile, handshake or offer to assist to rejoice in humanity. When turning inward, you can bring about peace by: 1. Quieting the inner turmoil. Take a few deep breaths and release all the self-limiting beliefs that enter your mind. Focus on the silence. 2. Seek to expand your awareness by looking for the solution within yourself and free of the dispute. This requires having faith in your true self and intuition to guide you to the solution. You create peace from within, from the silent core of your being. When you recognize this, you will free yourself from negativity. Tune in with Kristin every Monday at 7am PST to Intentional...

QDNA® Living a Heart-Centered Life-Access Your Heart’s Intuitive Intelligence-HeartMath’s Howard Martin & Marina Rose, QDNA® Join Marina Rose, QDNA® and Heartmath’s Howard Martin at 3:00pmPST on 11/24/15. Every great achievement is the victory of a flaming heart. – Ralph Waldo Emerson Learn to listen to your heart with love, compassion and patience while your heart tells you want it wants. You just have to stop and listen. Can You? The messages from your heart start off like gentle, nurturing, lapping waves, nipping at your ankles in the beginning. If you choose to ignore listening to the messages, they will only get louder and louder. Imagine there is war going on inside of you and you are stretched so thinly that you could snap in half, this is what it feels like when you defer listening to your heart over a long period of time. Now envision those messages becoming like your worst, wild, anxiety ridden, adrenaline pumping white water rafting nightmare. Debris gets unpredictably and precariously lodged and it’s terrifically dangerous and deadly. Your stress and cortisol levels are through the roof, catapulting radically off the charts like something out of horror movie. You get the picture right! Listen to Your Heart, Your Heart Always Tells You the Truth. “The doorway to fulfillment is in your heart. When you use your heart intelligence to shift perception and direct the flow of your emotions, you have the ability to generate and magnetize your own fulfillment. The longing stops and is replaced by appreciation.” HeartMath Solutions, Doc Chidre and Howard Martin. http://www.heartmath.com Our outstanding guest is Howard Martin and he is an Author, Speaker and Business Executive. “If Your Beliefs Are Limitless And Ever-Evolving Then Your Life Will Be Too.” – Oprah...

Are you ready to learn something truly powerful? It only takes one moment of conscious awareness to shift the entire course of your life. I am living proof. My “Do It All, Do It Perfectly, and Never Let Them See You Sweat” mentality took me to a perfect storm situation in which I was deeply grateful to be able to make a conscious choice to change the way I lived my life. Over time, my life has evolved into a life of true abundance and it all started with awareness and a conscious choice. You can do it too. According to Oprah, “Your personal power is not about what you do in your life, it is in how you live within.” I could not agree more. This belief changed everything for me.You hold the key to your natural gifts and unlimited potential to succeed; all you have to do to unlock the door is to believe in yourself. Deepak reaffirms this by saying all we have to do to achieve personal power is align our core beliefs with our true self. You can do this. I believe in you fully! Let’s unlock that door together. A simple shift from self-criticism to self-acceptance can begin the transformation. What can you do today to show yourself you are worthy, loved, secure, and fulfilled? Just one simple act, start small. Journal about each of the core beliefs (I am worthy. I am loved. I am secure. I am fulfilled.) and how they are progressing. Simply observe without judgment and be kind to yourself. We are planting seeds right now and like a garden, we need to nourish it. Let expanded awareness take care of the rest. Realize this journey to activate your true self takes time and...

What Place Do You Choose To Call Home? Nov20

What Place Do You Choose To Call Home?...

When you take a good look at yourself in the morning what do you see? Someone who is not thin enough? Not smart enough? Not pretty enough? Why is there always that sense of lacking something? Why can’t we look in the mirror and see the beauty encompassing our being…the radiance within that shines so brightly if we simply allow it to be seen? You can change your beliefs at any given moment. You can move away from the scarcity mindset into a feeling of gratitude for the abundance in your life simply by focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Deepak says, “Finding a path back to your source is a matter of letting life settle down to where it wants to be. What you seek, you already are.” When you stop looking for change outside of yourself and turn inward and simply allow for the realization of your unique talents and gifts, you unlock your unlimited potential. Like a present waiting to be unwrapped, that beautiful gift lies dormant inside until you choose to reveal it. Start at the source and seek all the answers from within. Don’t follow someone else’s map. Don’t wait for a miracle. Follow the flow of your awareness. Don’t resist what is ready to manifest inside if only given the chance. Open yourself to the unknown and stop censoring what you intuitively know to be true. Reach beyond yourself and be genuine and speak your truth. The truth will set you free of your ego and self-limiting beliefs. Let the center be your home. According to Deepak Chopra, the next time you see your life from a place of lack, instead you can: – Say, “This situation may be shaking me, but I am more than...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 – Nothing Can Prepare You For The End Nov20

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 – Nothing Can Prepare You For The End...

This closing film to The Hunger Games trilogy shows Katniss Everdeen, the reluctant leader of the rebellion leading an army against President Snow. Her tragic journey finally comes to an end with this emotional finish. KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Clayton P. comments, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is surprisingly more creative and suspenseful than all the prior films in the franchise.” See his full review below.   The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Clayton P., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 16 Video review   The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is surprisingly more creative and suspenseful than all the prior films in the franchise.  However, there are a couple of things about the film that are not fantastic. I don’t think that Jennifer Lawrence does a great job in this film. It seems as if she was asleep throughout the movie.  This film again stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hucherson as Peeta Mellark. They are supported by Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.  The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, who directed all the Hunger Games films except the first.   At the beginning of the film, Katniss is recruited by Commander Coin (Julianne Moore) to lead the rebellion. They really want her to be the “face” of the rebellion and film fake skirmishes for the ever present media. Katniss plays along but her intent is to assassinate President Snow.  Snow is ready for the rebellion. His generals plant POD traps (obstacles designed to release a weapon that can range from a bomb to a group of mutts) all over the Capital, which are motion sensitive.  When someone comes near, flame throwers engulf them or huge machine guns appear and blow them up. ...
